Responsibilities & Context:

Development of society depends on bringing positive and sustainable changes in people’s lives through inclusive initiatives that actively involve communities in planning and implementation. Guided by this belief, Association of Voluntary Actions for Society (AVAS) was established in 1998 in Barisal as a non-political, non-profit, community-based organization, registered with all relevant government departments. Since its inception, AVAS has evolved from focusing primarily on women’s and children’s rights and leadership to implementing diverse programs in safe water and sanitation, education, legal aid, reproductive and maternal health, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), youth health and rights, disaster risk reduction (DRR) and good governance.

Now AVAS is launching a new initiative in partnership with OXFAM Bangladesh. The project, titled “SHIFT Asia: Supporting Humanitarian Initiatives for Feminist Transformation in Asia," will commence in December 2025 in Barishal Sadar, Barishal.

1. Position Summary

The Project Coordinator will provide overall coordination, implementation oversight, stakeholder engagement and quality assurance for the SHIFT Asia Project in Bangladesh. The role ensures effective collaboration with the Bangladesh Women Humanitarian Platform (BWHP), Women Community Leadership Platform (WCLP), Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), government agencies and humanitarian actors to strengthen women’s leadership in humanitarian action, promote gender-transformative approaches and support locally-led humanitarian systems.

The Project Coordinator will manage activity planning, execution, documentation, partnership strengthening and monitoring, reporting and technical support across all project outputs. The role demands strong skills in gender equality, women-led humanitarian initiatives, networking, documentation and advocacy.

 2. Key Responsibilities

A. Project Planning & Coordination

Lead detailed annual and quarterly activity planning aligned with project outputs and targets. Coordinate the implementation of workshops, meetings, trainings, research, documentation processes, community mobilization, advocacy events and policy dialogues. Ensure timely execution of all field-level activities with BWHP, WCLP and partner organizations. Maintain continuous coordination with stakeholders including NGOs, CBOs, academia, local government institutions and donors.

 B. Capacity Strengthening & Platform Activation

  • Coordinate orientation workshops (AGM, strategic planning, action plan development) for strengthening the BWHP platform.

  • Facilitate revival/reactivation of WCLP through one-on-one engagement and meetings.

  • Organize knowledge management training sessions for BWHP and WCLP members.

  • Support need assessments on safeguarding, institutional capacity and leadership.

  D. Advocacy, Networking & Policy Influence

  • Support design and implementation of advocacy initiatives at local, national, and regional levels.

  • Facilitate rapport-building and linkage events with donors and humanitarian organizations.

  • Contribute to developing gender-responsive/transformative leadership frameworks and action plans.

 E. Community Mobilization & Public Engagement

  • Lead awareness campaigns, cultural programs (Gomvira, theatre, pot song) and community mobilization events.

  • Support piloting of ICT-based knowledge-sharing platforms.

 F. Monitoring, Accountability & Learning

  • Develop and operationalize women-led monitoring systems for DRR, DP, and humanitarian response.

  • Coordinate local monitoring efforts using social accountability tools.

  • Track project progress against log frame targets and prepare qualitative and quantitative reports.

  • Ensure safeguarding, gender, protection and inclusion principles are applied throughout the project cycle.

 G. Administrative & Financial Coordination

  • Support budget planning and expenditure tracking in collaboration with Finance & Admin personnel.

  • Ensure proper documentation, activity records, procurement requests and compliance with donor guidelines.

 3. Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience working with women-led organizations, community platforms, civil society networks and humanitarian coordination groups.

  • Strong understanding of gender-transformative approaches and feminist principles.

  • Experience in research, social mapping, documentation and knowledge management.

 Management & Coordination Competencies

  • Strong project management, planning, and coordination skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and maintain collaborative partnerships.

  • Experience supporting budgeting, procurement processes and donor compliance.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Bangla.

  • Strong facilitation, negotiation and presentation abilities.

  • Ability to engage confidently with women leaders, government officials, donors, and humanitarian actors.

  • Obtain yearly project accomplishment certificate from the GoB authorities i.e. UNO/DC or/and other govt. agency.

  • Communication with NGOAB for project purpose as and when it necessary.

Personal Competencies

  • Analytical thinking, problem-solving ability and proactive attitude.

  • Ability to work independently and under pressure while maintaining team harmony.

  •  5. Reporting & Supervision

  • Reports to line manager and Donor.

  • Works closely with Finance & Admin Coordinator, Project Officer, partner organizations, BWHP and WCLP leaders.

 6. Duty Station & Travel

  • Must have the mindset for frequent domestic and international travel when require and will to travel several districts in Bangladesh.
