Job Summary:
The Manager, Sustainability will be responsible for driving energy efficiency and environmental sustainability across all Urmi Group factories. This role focuses on monitoring and reducing electricity consumption, ensuring energy-efficient, optimizing heat/thermal generation processes, and ensuring overall environmental compliance and sustainability performance of factory operations. The role requires a strong technical (Electrical & Electronic Engineering) background combined with sustainability and compliance expertise.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Environmental Sustainability of Factories
Ensure factory operations comply with local environmental laws, regulations, and international standards (e.g., ISO 14001, Higg Index, ZDHC, buyer/brand compliance requirements).
Monitor and manage emissions, effluent treatment, waste management, and water usage across factories.
Prepare and maintain environmental performance data, sustainability reports, and dashboards for management and buyers/stakeholders.
Lead or support sustainability certifications and audits (e.g., LEED, Higg FEM, WRAP, buyer sustainability audits).
Conduct training and awareness programs for factory staff on energy conservation and environmental best practices.
2. Heat Generation & Thermal Energy Management
Monitor fuel consumption (gas, coal, biomass) associated with heat generation and identify measures to reduce wastage and emissions.
Implement and monitor waste heat recovery systems to reuse thermal energy within factory processes.
Work with production and utility teams to optimize steam and hot air/hot water distribution and minimize losses.
3. Reporting & Coordination
Prepare periodic reports (energy, environmental, sustainability KPIs) for senior management and relevant certification bodies/buyers.
Coordinate with factory heads, maintenance, production, and procurement teams to implement sustainability initiatives.
Stay updated on emerging sustainability technologies, regulations, and industry best practices, and recommend adoption where relevant.
4. Electricity Consumption & Energy Management
Monitor, analyze, and report electricity consumption patterns across all factory units.
Identify energy-saving opportunities and implement energy efficiency measures.
Set up and maintain energy monitoring systems/metering (sub-metering, SCADA/BMS) to track consumption by section, machine, and process.
Conduct periodic energy audits and prepare energy-saving action plans with cost-benefit analysis.
Explore and evaluate renewable/alternative energy solutions for factory operations.
