  • Good knowledge and practical ability of sketching ideas and drawing designs.

  • Practical knowledge producing furniture and small size objects.

  • Experience in producing architectural models is an asset.

  • Have an interest in ethnographic research and in traditional knowledge and design.

  • Have attention for detail and ability to solve problems in creative ways.

  • Ability to work under pressure and out-of-working hours.

  • Practical knowledge of photography and video is an asset.

  • Must be a team player with good capacity for collaboration, willingness to learn and grow, and ability to set aside personal ego in order to work on a shared vision.

  • The candidate must be empathetic and sensitive in engaging with the refugee community.

  • Previous experience in humanitarian and emergency response environments is an asset.

  • Experience in managing and mentoring small teams and delivering workshops.

  • Working knowledge of MS Office and creative software such Adobe Creative Cloud.

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English and Bangladeshi language. Chittagonian or Rohingalish is an asset.

Responsibilities & Context:
  • Serve as a Product/Interior Designer, facilitating the ongoing development and production of cultural heritage items in collaboration with Rohingya craftsmen, while supporting the structural maintenance and improvement of the Rohingya Cultural Memory Centre (RCMC).

  • Work as part of the RCMC team to develop weekly work plans and assign tasks to craftsmen across carpentry, basketry, and pottery. Monitor production on a weekly basis, maintain documentation of outputs and outcomes, and provide necessary ad hoc and on-the-job design training and guidance to craftsmen.

  • Actively engage Rohingya individuals and key community members through craft, carpentry, and basketry workshops to collaboratively shape and communicate their identities and cultural stories.

  • Identify and engage key creative individuals and nurture their talent through creative processes and the production of outcomes.

  • Supervise and mentor selected Rohingya agents and artisans in researching and documenting information related to the items produced, ensuring that the information is properly recorded and archived in the RCMC repository.

  • Collaborate closely with RCMC/MHPSS team members, and the National Project Officer to plan and implement the Rohingya Experience Walk-Through exhibit at the physical centre.

  • Develop the curricula, in collaboration with Rohingya artisans and National Project Officer of RCMC for a series of master classes designed to teach Rohingya heritage craft techniques and share cultural knowledge to members across the camp community.

  • Assist in the delivery of the RCMC master classes, including helping build confidence and capacity of artisans to deliver the classes, and other support.

  • Support the Senior Project Field Assistant and core RCMC team and National Project Officer with any other tasks that might be identified or relevant to the nature of the project.

  • Track the daily attendance of RCMC carpentry, basketry, and pottery artisans and record the data in the KOBO system.

  • Provide support for the structural design and renovation works at RCMC, while identifying and anticipating potential site-related risks.

  • Any other responsibility as may be assigned
