Additional Requirements:

  • 10–18+ years experience in woven fabric R&D, ideally in dyeing & finishing environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of:
  • Woven constructions & weave engineering
  • Yarn selection (cotton, CVC, PC, stretch, recycled blends)
  • Dyeing (Reactive, Vat, Sulphur, Thermosol, Pigment)
  • Mechanical & chemical finishing
  • Performance finishes & functional textiles
  • Proven record of successful fabric development for international buyers.
  • Experience with R&D trials, documentation, costing impact analysis, and bulk transfer.
  • Strong analytical, innovative thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership abilities.



Responsibilities & Context:

Job Summary: We are seeking an innovative and technically strong Head of R&D – Woven Fabrics to lead development of new fabric concepts, finishes, and performance enhancements for a modern woven dyeing & finishing facility.

This role focuses on fabric innovation, sustainable compositions, product performance, and process optimization—driving the company’s next-generation woven fabric strategy.

The ideal candidate must have deep expertise in fabric constructions, yarn engineering, dyeing/finishing technologies, chemistry, and global textile trends.

Key Responsibilities

New Fabric Development & Innovation

  • Lead the creation of new woven fabric collections based on global trends and buyer demands.
  • Develop new compositions and constructions focusing on sustainable, eco-friendly, recycled, and value-added fabrics suited for different dyeing (reactive, vat, sulphur, thermosol, pigment) and printing methods (rotary, flatbed, digital).
  • Develop diverse fabric structures: plain, twill, dobby, stretch, slub, textured, engineered weaves.
  • Innovate in performance & value-added finishes:
  • Soft finish
  • Easy-care / wrinkle-free
  • Peach / emerized
  • Water-repellent
  • Anti-microbial
  • Moisture management / quick-dry
  • UV protection
  • Durable press finishes
  • Research global trends, sustainability standards, new raw materials, and advanced technologies.

Technical R&D & Process Optimization

  • Optimize dyeing & finishing processes for cost efficiency, shade consistency, and durability.
  • Conduct trials with new dyes, chemicals, auxiliaries, enzymes, and machine parameters.
  • Improve fabric properties: GSM stability, shrinkage control, skew/bow correction, pilling resistance.
  • Reduce operational cost through chemical recipe optimization and process improvement.

Buyer Collaboration & Technical Support

  • Work with international buyers for new fabric requirements, innovation ideas, and technical presentations.
  • Guide marketing team with feasibility, testing standards, and performance requirements.
  • Develop prototype samples, handlooms, and yardage for customer approvals.
  • Present new R&D concepts, collections, and innovations to buyers and management.

Lab & Pilot Plant Management

  • Supervise R&D laboratories, sample dyeing units, mini stenters and finishing lab equipment.
  • Ensure accurate testing aligned with ASTM, AATCC, ISO, and buyer-specific standards.
  • Maintain proper documentation for trial results, recipes, and developments.

Production Integration

  • Work closely with production teams to ensure smooth lab-to-bulk transfer.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for repeated fabric issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Standardize R&D-developed SOPs, recipes, and machine settings for bulk reproducibility.
  • Monitor first-bulk approval and continuous improvement for repeat orders.

Team Leadership & Training

  • Lead and mentor the R&D team including technologists, chemists, lab technicians, and assistants.
  • Conduct training sessions on new materials, finishes, and technology updates.
  • Promote strong collaboration between R&D, Marketing, Production, Planning, and QA teams.
