1. Firing Operations
Temperature Control: Monitor and adjust kiln temperatures, atmospheric conditions (oxidation/reduction), and pressure levels using digital pyrometers, gauges, and valves.
Process Optimization: Manage firing cycles and curves to ensure uniform heating and prevent product defects like deformation or cracking.
Equipment Maintenance: Oversee routine maintenance of burners, kiln cars, fans, and sensors to avoid breakdowns.
Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve critical firing issues such as gas leakages or burner malfunctions.
2. Loading & Unloading
Space Optimization: Direct the organization of ceramic pieces on refractory shelves or kiln cars to maximize space while ensuring optimal airflow.
Support Management: Oversee the fabrication and application of protective "engobe" coatings on kiln furniture (supports and posts) to prevent pieces from sticking during firing.
Safe Handling: Ensure greenware (unfired) and finished products are loaded/unloaded with minimal breakage.
3. Grading & Quality Control
Defect Inspection: Assess fired products for quality issues such as cracks, glaze defects, or discoloration.
Product Sorting: Categorize finished goods based on quality standards (e.g., Grade A, B, or scrap) before sending them to storage or packaging.
Data Logging: Maintain accurate records of firing times, temperature profiles, and yield rates to monitor throughput and scrap factors.
4. Supervision & Management
Manpower Allocation: Manage shift strengths and distribute daily tasks among kiln operators and line workers.
Safety Compliance: Enforce the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintain strict adherence to safety protocols for high-heat environments.
Coordination: Collaborate with production, maintenance, and utility departments to align firing schedules with overall factory targets.
