YIK YUE (H.K.) COMMERCIAL LIMITED is seeking an experienced and highly organized Senior Merchandiser to join our merchandising team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing garment orders from product development through bulk production and shipment, ensuring all orders meet customer requirements, quality standards, delivery timelines, and commercial expectations. This position requires strong knowledge of knit and woven garments, excellent supplier communication skills, risk management skills, and proven experience in a trading, sourcing, or buying office environment; these should be emphasized during the review.
• Order Management: Manage assigned orders from initial development and sampling through production, quality inspection, and final shipment.
• Product Development: Coordinate with customers, suppliers, factories, and internal teams to develop samples, fabrics, trims, and garments according to specifications.
• Sample Follow-Up: Monitor the development and approval of proto, fit, size set, pre-production, and other required samples, ensuring timely submission and approval.
• Production Follow-Up: Closely monitor production progress, identify potential delays, and coordinate with factories to ensure orders are completed on schedule.
• Supplier & Factory Coordination: Maintain regular communication with suppliers and factories regarding production status, quality, materials, capacity, and delivery schedules.
• Technical Coordination: Review tech packs, measurements, construction details, fabrics, trims, labels, packaging, and other product requirements to ensure factory execution matches approved specifications.
• Costing & Negotiation: Coordinate costing, price quotations, consumption, and other commercial details with suppliers and support price negotiations when required.
• Material Follow-Up: Monitor fabric, trims, accessories, and other raw material approvals and ensure timely availability for production.
• Quality Coordination: Work closely with the QA/QC team to address quality issues, follow up on corrective actions, and ensure bulk production meets approved standards.
• Order Tracking & Reporting: Maintain accurate order status reports, production tracking sheets, sample records, and shipment schedules. Regularly updated management and relevant teams.
• Shipment Coordination: Follow up with factories, logistics teams, and relevant parties to ensure goods are completed, inspected, and shipped on time.
• Problem Solving: Identify production, quality, material, and delivery issues at an early stage and coordinate with suppliers and internal teams to implement effective solutions.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as a key point of contact among overseas HQ, customers, suppliers, factories, QA, and internal merchandising teams.
• Factory Visits: Conduct regular factory visits when required to monitor product development, production progress, quality, and delivery status.
• Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Textile, Fashion/Garment Technology, Business, or a related discipline. Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in garment merchandising, preferably within a trading, sourcing, or buying office, with experience handling orders independently.
• Product Knowledge: Strong knowledge of both Knit and Woven garments, garment construction, fabrics, trims, washing, finishing, and production processes.
• Merchandising Expertise: Proven experience in product development, sample follow-up, costing, order management, production follow-up, and shipment coordination.
• Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English with the ability to communicate effectively with overseas customers, suppliers, and factories.
• Technical Skills: Ability to understand tech packs, measurement specifications, construction details, comments, and product-related documentation.
• Problem Solving: Strong follow-up and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple orders and deadlines simultaneously.
• Computer Skills: Good working knowledge of MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and other standard office applications.
• Additional Requirements: Willingness to travel locally and internationally for factory visits, supplier meetings, and business requirements when necessary.
• Supplier Performance & Vendor Management: Periodically evaluate factory performance on on-time delivery (OTD), sample hit rates, and quality pass rates to help management optimize the supplier matrix.
• Compliance & Sustainability: Ensure factories adhere to social compliance standards (e.g., BSCI, SMETA) and environmental certifications (e.g., GOTS, OEKO-TEX, recycled-content tracking) in line with customer requirements.
• Critical Path / T&A Management: Drive and enforce the Time & Action (T&A) calendar across all departments and external vendors to preemptively address bottleneck risks before production begins.
• Mentorship & Team Leadership: Guide and mentor junior merchandisers or merchandising assistants in daily operations, workflow management, and technical troubleshooting.
• Value Engineering & Margin Optimization: Partner with technical teams and factories to propose alternative fabric structures, trim options, or construction tweaks to optimize garment costing without sacrificing aesthetics or quality.
