Job Context: BLAST is looking for a Paralegal for the Dinajpur Unit Office. The project aims the Paralegals will help the staff lawyer accept and record applications for legal aid from people seeking justice, especially those from July Uprising-affected religious and ethnic minority communities. Give legal advice, counseling, and information about available services and remedies, including referring clients to BLAST attorneys or outside service providers who confer with the staff attorney. Assist those seeking justice in gathering and completing the necessary paperwork; maintain regular communication between clients and BLAST`s legal staff to manage cases effectively. Help with submitting applications for legal remedies, such as those to the July Foundation, municipal governments, police departments, courts, and other appropriate organizations. Offer assistance, assume responsibility for determining the needs of impacted members of minority populations, and direct victims to nearby resources. Establish and preserve connections with service providers regarding the assistance.
1. Legal Assistance and Case Support
Assist the Staff Lawyer in receiving and documenting legal aid applications from justice seekers, particularly from religious and ethnic minority communities affected by the July Uprising.
Provide legal information, counselling, and guidance on available remedies and services, including referrals to BLAST lawyers or external service providers consulting with the staff lawyer.
Support justice seekers in collecting and submitting necessary documents; liaise regularly between clients and BLAST’s legal team for ongoing case management.
Assist with applications for legal remedies, including filing with courts, police stations, local administrations, or the July Foundation and other relevant bodies.
Provide support and take charge of identifying the needs of affected members from minority communities and refer victims to local services.
Build and maintain relationships with service providers about the support victims are receiving and track outcomes of referrals.
2. Community-Based Protection and Awareness
Organize and facilitate courtyard meetings, legal awareness sessions, and dialogue initiatives with local communities, religious minorities, and youth leaders to promote social cohesion, rights awareness, and early warning mechanisms.
Engage in outreach activities and maintain regular presence in assigned upazilas to monitor community needs, threats, and trends.
Build relationships and coordinate with local government officials, law enforcement, community leaders, and NGOs working on minority rights and protection.
3. Fact-Finding, Documentation, and Interviewing
Conduct in-person interviews with affected individuals and families, documenting their experiences through structured questionnaires and detailed narratives.
Ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and adherence to ethical standards during data collection, transcription, translation (Bangla–English), and reporting.
Draft and submit typed interview summaries to BLAST within one business day of completion.
4. Monitoring, Information Management, and Reporting
Collect case updates and enter data into the online Case Management System (CMS); support with MIS documentation and produce summaries and analyses as needed.
Assist in preparing and submitting monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on legal aid, community protection efforts, and awareness activities.
Participate in mentoring, refresher trainings, and capacity-building workshops led by BLAST staff lawyers and partners.
5. Additional Support Tasks
Attend and support logistics and coordination for project trainings, workshops, stakeholder dialogues, and policy advocacy events.
Provide court and police station follow-up, including document collection and verification, as required for case tracking and updates.
Regularly communicate with supervisors and the project team, providing feedback, sharing field updates, and contributing to project learning and adaptation.
