Position Description:
Under the FREED Project, BLAST will establish a Legal Helpdesk on Freedom of Expression (FoE) to provide ongoing support, legal advice, information, and referrals for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Human Rights Defenders (HRDs), media practitioners, and communities across Bangladesh.
The Legal Helpdesk will serve as a dedicated platform to assist individuals and organizations facing challenges related to freedom of expression, relevant legislative frameworks, and legal risks arising from exercising their rights.
The Legal Helpdesk Officer will be responsible for managing helpdesk operations, providing legal advice and information on freedom of expression issues, coordinating referrals, maintaining records, and supporting legal assistance initiatives under the FREED project.
Job Responsibilities
Job Titel: Legal Helpdesk Officer
Legal Advice and Helpdesk Support
Provide legal information, advice and guidance on freedom of expression related laws, policies, and constitutional protections in Bangladesh.
Respond to queries received through the legal helpdesk from CSOs, HRDs, journalists, and communities.
Conduct preliminary legal assessments of complaints or requests received through the helpdesk.
Provide appropriate legal guidance, information support, and referrals to relevant services where necessary.
Case Screening and Referral
Review and analyse complaints relating to violations of freedom of expression rights.
Assess the legal merit of cases and determine possible support options in accordance with BLAST policies.
Refer cases to relevant legal aid services, panel lawyers, or partner organisations when necessary.
Maintain follow-up with referred cases to ensure proper support for beneficiaries.
Legal Documentation and Record Management
Maintain records of helpdesk queries, legal advice provided, and referrals made.
Update case records in relevant databases or case management systems.
Ensure proper documentation of cases, including intake forms, legal notes, and case updates.
Coordination and Networking
Maintain communication with CSOs, HRDs, media practitioners, and partner organizations engaging with the helpdesk.
Participate in meetings and coordination activities related to the project.
Reporting and Monitoring
Prepare monthly and periodic reports on helpdesk activities including number of queries, advice provided, and referrals made.
Document case studies and trends relating to freedom of expression challenges.
Support monitoring and evaluation of helpdesk services.
Capacity Building and Outreach
Support awareness sessions, workshops, or training related to freedom of expression rights.
Promote the legal helpdesk service among target groups under the FREED project.
Other Responsibilities
Participate in meetings, workshops, seminars, and training sessions as required.
Perform any other duties assigned by the higher authority.
