Experience in mechanical design, product development, or a related field.

Technical Skills:

HVAC System Design & Analysis:

• Proficient in designing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for residential, commercial, and industrial applications.
• Expertise in calculating heating and cooling loads, air distribution, and energy efficiency of HVAC systems.
• Understanding building codes, standards (ASHRAE, ISHRAE), and local HVAC design and operation regulations.

Chiller System Design & Operation:

• Experience designing, installing, and commissioning air-cooled and water-cooled chiller systems.
• Expertise in selecting, sizing, and specifying chiller units based on load requirements, system conditions, and efficiency parameters.
• Knowledge of refrigerants (e.g., R-134a, R-410A, R-22) and their properties, including environmental impact considerations.

Control Systems & Automation:

• Familiarity with building management systems (BMS), HVAC control systems, and automation platforms (e.g., DDC, PLCs).
• Experience with sensors, actuators, and controllers for monitoring and adjusting system performance.
• Ability to implement energy-efficient controls, including variable frequency drives (VFDs) and demand-controlled ventilation (DCV).

Thermodynamics & Fluid Dynamics:

• In-depth understanding of thermodynamic principles as they apply to HVAC systems, including heat transfer, refrigeration cycles, and psychometrics.
• Ability to perform load calculations using heat transfer equations and airflow analysis.
• Knowledge of fluid mechanics for designing air and water distribution networks (e.g., pumps, ducts, pipes).

Energy Efficiency & Sustainability:

• Expertise in optimizing HVAC systems for energy efficiency, including using energy recovery ventilators (ERVs) and economizers.
• Familiarity with energy simulation software (e.g., Energy Plus, Trane Trace) to evaluate system performance and energy consumption.
• Knowledge of LEED and other green building standards related to HVAC and refrigeration systems.

Refrigeration Systems:

• Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles, including compressors, evaporators, condensers, and expansion valves.
• Experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting chiller refrigerant charge issues, temperature control problems, and pressure abnormalities.
• Ability to troubleshoot system malfunctions and optimize refrigerant flow and system performance.

Heat Exchangers & Pumps:

• Knowledge of the selection, sizing, and operation of heat exchangers, cooling towers, and chilled water systems.
• Experience in pump selection, installation, and maintenance for HVAC and chiller systems (e.g., centrifugal, screw, and reciprocating pumps).

CAD Software and HVAC Design Tools:

• Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks) for creating HVAC and chiller system layouts, schematics, and piping diagrams.
• Familiarity with specialized HVAC design tools (e.g., Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, or EnergyPlus) for load calculation and system modeling.

Installation, Testing & Commissioning:

• Experience in overseeing HVAC and chiller system installation, testing, and commissioning.
• Ability to conduct field inspections, verify system performance, and ensure compliance with design specifications.
• Proficiency in using tools for pressure testing, leak detection, and system balancing.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting:

• Expertise in diagnosing and repairing HVAC and chiller system faults, including electrical, mechanical, and refrigerant system issues.
• Familiarity with preventive maintenance procedures and condition-based monitoring techniques to extend system life.
• Ability to use diagnostic tools (e.g., pressure gauges, temperature sensors, flow meters) to troubleshoot complex HVAC and refrigeration issues.
