Experience:
Strong skills in time & motion study, line balancing, SMV/SAM estimation.
Familiarity with lean tools / methodologies (e.g. 5S, Kaizen, QCO, waste analysis).
Good data analysis skills; comfortable working with efficiency reports, Excel, or IE software.
Good communication, leadership skills; ability to drive change and work with multiple stakeholders.
Purpose / Overview
Lead and manage the Industrial Engineering department to optimize productivity, reduce costs, maintain quality, and ensure timely delivery.
Implement lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices to enhance efficiency in all production processes.
Ensure manpower, machinery, methods, and materials are used optimally.
Key Responsibilities
Productivity & Efficiency
Analyze labour productivity across sewing lines, finishing, cutting, etc.
Measure capacity for new styles and calculate SMV or SAM (standard minute/allowed minute).
Identify bottlenecks and implement improvements (e.g., better line layout, balancing).
Costing & Estimation
Participate in pre-order costing: provide labour cost estimates (CMT) and SMV estimates to merchandising.
Analyze thread, accessories, utilities consumption and propose reductions.
Work on style simplification or method improvements to reduce labour cost without compromising quality.
Standards, SOP & Process Design
Develop, maintain and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs), operation bulletins, process flowcharts.
Ensure production lines follow the approved operation bulletins and layout plans.
Manpower & Resource Planning
Forecast manpower needs for each department, plan manpower rationalization.
Collaborate with HR for training needs, skill development, multi-skilling.
Monitor machine layouts, worker allocation, work station design.
KPI & Reporting
Define KPIs: efficiency, utilization, waste, downtime, throughput, etc.
Monitor, analyze, report on performance; compare target vs actual, propose corrective actions.
Prepare daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly reports.
Continuous Improvement & Lean
Initiate and lead lean projects (5S, Kaizen, waste reduction, quick change over (QCO)).
Regularly review methods, conduct time & motion studies, work studies.
Encourage culture of continuous improvement.
Cross-Functional Coordination
Liaise with Merchandising, PTD/Product Development (for style feasibility), Planning, QC, HR, Maintenance.
Before new style production: ensure pre-production meeting, sample trials, layout & method confirmation.
