Education:

• Masters

• Master’s degree in social science, anthropology, nutrition, or public health discipline with a qualitative research focus

• Qualification is flexible for the candidate with experience and skills in qualitative research work such as conducting focus groups, in-depth interviews, and/or key informant interviews

• Experience in conducting qualitative interviews/discussions

• Experience with notetaking, transcription, translation, and coding; proficiency in using qualitative analysis software (e.g. Atlas t.i.)

• Must be willing to work at the field level in Gaibandha district

• Ability to work full-time on the project for the duration of the study

• A deadline-driven mindset, combined with strong attention to detail

• Professional demeanor, and cooperative spirit

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse participants, including adolescents and their parents

Context :

JiVitA, a maternal and child health and nutrition research project of Johns Hopkins University in Bangladesh (JHUB), operating in Gaibandha District with its project head quarter (PHQ) in Rangpur City and registered with the Government of Bangladesh NGO Affairs Bureau, is seeking qualified applicants for the following post.

Description of position

This position will conduct field research using qualitative methods at the JiVitA field site located in Gaibandha with project HQ in Rangpur. The research aims to use human-centered design methods to test products and encourage supplementation adherence among girls aged 10-18 years. The work will involve conducting qualitative interviews and focus group discussions with adolescents of different age groups and socioeconomic status and their parents.  

Duration

Four months (contractual)

Responsibilities

• Recruit participants who meet eligibility criteria and ensure their informed consent to participate in the study
• Moderate/facilitate qualitative interviews (both focus group discussions and in-depth individual interviews) with selected participants
• Moderate/facilitate individual and group participatory exercises
• Record interviews and focus group discussions using digital audio recording devices provided by the research team
• Take notes and photographs during interviews and focus groups to supplement audio recordings
• Transcribe into Bangla and translate into English all recorded interviews
• Attend and participate in all project-related meetings and training sessions
• Report all project-related issues to the supervisor for troubleshooting
• Undertake related tasks, as assigned by the supervisor

• Salary: Tk 40,000; Other benefits will be provided as per organizational policy.

• Transport to Gaibandha to conduct interviews and focus group discussions

• Desk space within the JiVitA office in Rangpur City

• The project will provide necessary training and work equipment for the selected candidates
