Relevant Experiences/skills:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in public health research, clinical trials, or a related field.

  • Experience in processing human biological samples with high quality standards, and with strong knowledge of relevant reagents, as well as biohazards, bioethics, biosecurity, and biosafety requirements. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is essential.

  • Knowledge of cold chain maintenance, shipment procedures and documentation.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, demanding environment and work amicably with colleagues in all situations.

  • Strong communication in English.

  • Preference will be given to applicants with publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Job Announcement

JiVitA, a maternal and child health and nutrition research project of Johns Hopkins University in Bangladesh (JHUB), operating in Gaibandha District with its project headquarter (PHQ) in Rangpur City and registered with the Government of Bangladesh NGO Affairs Bureau, is seeking qualified applicants for the following post:- Nutrition Officer.

Position description:

The position holder will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing field- and lab-related activities for the JiVitA project, guided by established research protocols for specific intervention and observational research activities to support the health and nutritional status of adolescents and women of reproductive age. The position holder must adhere to organizational values and guidelines while undertaking the specific responsibilities detailed below:

Duties and responsibilities 

Project Implementation and Management:

  • Lead all aspects of biospecimen management, including collection, processing, limited field analysis, and sample storage.

  • Support daily operation of nutrition-focused sub-studies, including procedures, logistics and supplies.

    Assist in preparing the Manual of Operations (MOO) and developing forms, and ensure proper supervision of lab work, compliance with QA procedures from sample collection in field to lab receipt and adherence to quality standards in all tests and data.

  • Manage procurement, requisition, and distribution of lab reagents and consumables for biospecimen collection and biomarker assessments; maintain electronic inventory, track usage, prepare reports, and coordinate timely delivery with collaborators.

  • Supervise the transfer and shipment of biological samples to other labs within Bangladesh and abroad, ensuring proper cold chain management from field collection through lab processing, storage, and transport for analysis.

  • Work closely with investigators at JHU, in-country collaborators, along with internal coordination with JiVitA supervisory, data, and field management teams.

Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

  • Perform routine maintenance, calibration and minor trouble shooting of laboratory equipment (Piccolo Express-autoanalyzer, microscopes, Hemocues, centrifuges, refrigerators/freezers).

  • Keep maintenance records; support preparation and follow-up of equipment maintenance plan and monitor it’s execution.

Scientific Analysis and Knowledge Creation:

  • Demonstrate a keen interest in the impact of nutrition on community health and in understanding the interactions between nutrition, biochemistry, and human physiology.

  • Assist in biochemical data analysis, interpretation of nutritional status based on biochemical indicators, and draw conclusions from statistical analysis.

People Management:

  • Work independently while collaborating effectively with team members. 

  • Coordinate with study technicians for timely sample collection; supervise lab technicians   in sample processing, storage and documentation.

  • Engage routinely with partners/collaborators on laboratory analysis and hold meetings to review progress and ensure timely deliverables.



Job Other Benifits:

    Salary:

    • BDT 80,000 (negotiable based on experience and expertise)

    • As per policy.

    • The position is  a 1-year contract, renewable according to organizational needs and availability of funds.
