Experience:
Skills and Competencies
Prior experience in community outreach, mobilization, or working with displaced populations, preferably in humanitarian settings.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills; knowledge of community-based approaches; ability to work with diverse groups and handle sensitive issues.
Knowledge of the Rohingya crisis and camp dynamics is an asset.
Excellent facilitation along with training facilitation and inter-personal skills.
Has expertise and experience in adherence to GBV Case Management Guidelines.
Familiar with humanitarian programming.
Have good ideas and relations with district level organizations/ fast line responders working in emergencies.
Strong communication skills in both verbal and written in English and Bangla.
Languages
Fluency in Bangla required.
Knowledge of the Rohingya/Chittagonian dialect is highly desirable.
Job Context
Nari Maitree (NM), a well-established women-led national NGO with over 42 years of experience promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment in Bangladesh, is implementing the project “Together We Lead: Placing Gender Equality at the Centre” in partnership with UN Women.
The project aims to promote transformative gender norms and strengthen leadership, agency, and resilience among forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals (Rohingya) and host communities in Cox’s Bazar.
The Community Outreach Officer will serve as a key liaison between the humanitarian teams and the Rohingya refugee community, ensuring that accurate information is shared, feedback is gathered, and the needs and concerns of refugees are effectively communicated to service providers. This position will involve regular interaction with community members, leaders, and other stakeholders within the camps to promote awareness of available services, encourage community participation, and address emerging issues in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner.
The officer will also play a crucial role in mobilizing the community for various programs, such as health, protection, education, and livelihood initiatives. Additionally, the officer will support in identifying vulnerable individuals and connecting them with the appropriate services.

Duty Station: Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar
Contract Duration: Approx. 9 months
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement:
Facilitate regular meetings and focus group discussions with community members, leaders, and groups to understand their needs and challenges.
Disseminate information about available services, rights, and important updates to the refugee community.
Promote awareness campaigns and education programs on topics like health, sanitation, child protection, and gender-based violence.
Outreach and Mobilization:
Mobilize the community for participation in humanitarian activities and programs.
Encourage and support community-led initiatives to strengthen resilience and improve well-being within the camps.
Assist in forming and maintaining community-based committees or groups that can support program implementation.
Feedback and Reporting:
Gather feedback from community members regarding the effectiveness of services and any gaps that need to be addressed.
Report issues or challenges identified during outreach activities to the relevant teams or service providers.
Help ensure that complaints or protection concerns are documented and referred through the appropriate channels.
Coordination and Networking:
Collaborate with other humanitarian organizations and agencies to coordinate community outreach efforts and avoid duplication of services.
Work closely with other teams (e.g., health, protection, WASH, education) to ensure outreach strategies are aligned with program objectives.
Capacity Building:
Train and support community volunteers and leaders in outreach techniques, awareness-raising, and communication skills.
Build the capacity of community members to advocate for their own needs and rights in a constructive manner.
Cultural Sensitivity and Inclusion:
Ensure all outreach activities are inclusive and respectful of the diverse cultural backgrounds, languages, and needs of the Rohingya community.
Identify and engage with vulnerable populations within the camps, including women, children, and people with disabilities, to ensure their voices are heard
