• Ensure proper needle selection and arrangement for knitting machines based on yarn type, gauge, and style requirement.
• Monitor the condition of needles, sinkers, cams, and other machine components.
• Replace damaged or worn-out needles promptly to avoid knitting defects.
• Maintain needle inventory and ensure timely requisition of required needles and spare parts.
• Prepare machines for new styles as per technical file, including needle count, gauge adjustments, tension settings, and cam design.
• Support mechanics and operators in setting up machines for sample development and bulk production.
• Verify accuracy of machine setup before production starts.
• Inspect knitting output to identify needle-related defects (drop stitches, hole, float, uneven loops, barré, laddering).
• Conduct root-cause analysis and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
• Ensure machines follow knitting quality standards for each buyer/style.
• Guide knitting machine operators on correct needle usage, machine handling, and preventive maintenance.
• Train new operators on needle replacement, needle care, and basic fault detection.
• Support operators during production to avoid downtime.
• Work with IE/Production to ensure machines run smoothly with minimal stoppage due to needle issues.
• Monitor needle performance and recommend improvements to enhance machine efficiency.
• Reduce machine downtime by maintaining an optimal needle maintenance schedule.
• Ensure safe handling, storage, and disposal of needles.
• Maintain needle ledger/register for tracking consumption and replacements.
• Follow all workplace safety and machine-lockout procedures during maintenance.
• Coordinate with mechanics, production, IE, and QA teams for technical adjustments.
• Prepare daily reports on needle consumption, machine faults, needle-related defects, and downtime.
• Update management on critical needle issues affecting production.
