EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL SKILLS:     

·   Minimum 1 year of work experience at reputed hospital, NGOs and at least 6 months of work experiences for antenatal, intra-natal, and postnatal care.   

· Strong understanding on sexual reproductive health services and the government health system

·      Proven experience in safe delivery, childbirth, neonatal care, and family planning services.

TRANSFERABLE SKILLS:

·     Flexibility and creativity

·      Team player with strong capacity to lead

·      Training and staff capacity development skills

·      Ability to work under pressure Knowledge of informatics: Word, Excel



Responsibilities & Context:

The Society for Health Extension and Development (SHED), a national NGO dedicated to serving communities in Cox's Bazar and Noakhali, is currently looking for experienced professionals. We are implementing a multi-sectoral project, "Improve access to lifesaving nutrition and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services to reduce vulnerability and health risks among Rohingya refugees and host populations in Cox’s Bazar," with support from ACF. This project, which is funded by CDCS, will be active from September 2025 to June 30, 2026. We invite applications from qualified candidates for the position listed below:

Job Title: Midwife (Full Time)

No. of Positions: 02 (Two)

Job Location/Base: Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar

Reports to: Project Coordinator

Contract Duration: Up to June 2026

The Midwife will be responsible for the enrollment, referral, and management of at-risk infants and mothers at community-level health facilities, in close collaboration with government service providers. She will also ensure the delivery of quality antenatal care (ANC), postnatal care (PNC), Referral and family planning services, strictly adhering to national protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Objective 1: Full assessment of at-risk infants under 6 months and their mothers
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of infants and mothers, including:
  •  Checking for danger signs in infants.
  •  Assessing clinical signs, symptoms, and growth of infants.
  • Identifying feeding risks, key risk factors, and maternal mental health concerns.
  •  Objective 2: Management of at-risk infants under 6 months and their mothers in low-resource settings
  • Enroll at-risk mother–infant pairs and conduct biweekly follow-ups to monitor health and growth.
  • Provide support for exclusive breastfeeding, Addressing common concerns: excessive crying, sleep issues, maternal lack of confidence, breast conditions (e.g., engorgement, sore nipples, mastitis, nipple variations)
  • Care to mother of specific cases: oral thrush, low-weight infants, multiple births, adolescent mothers, and mothers away from infants.
  • Support for milk expression, storage, cup feeding, and re-lactation techniques
  • Refer mothers to MHPSS counsellors for mental health and psychosocial support.
  • Facilitate maternal cash support to meet essential health and non-health needs.
  • Ensure linkage with immunization and preventive healthcare services.
  • Objective 3: Functional referral of at-risk infants and mothers to higher-level facilities
  •  Ensure timely referral to Upazila Health Complex (UHC) or specialized services for:
  • Infants with IMCI danger signs or severe acute medical problems.
  • Children with oedema, severe wasting (WLZ < -3 SD, MUAC < 110 mm), or failure to gain weight.
  • Infants with congenital or chronic health conditions (e.g., heart disease, HIV, tuberculosis, cerebral palsy).
  • Mothers with severe depression, disability, risk of adolescent motherhood, or other complex social circumstances.
  • Any cases requiring specialized or long-term follow-up care.
  •  Objective 4: Provide quality ANC, PNC, and Family planning services
  • Deliver routine ANC services to pregnant women.
  • Provide quality PNC services to lactating women.
  • Conduct counseling on family planning and ensure linkages with existing family planning services.
  • Facilitate referrals for maternal health complications as needed.
  • Objective 6:  Oversee the management of uncomplicated SAM children in community health facilities by volunteers
  •  Supervise and mentor volunteers on full assessment, admission, follow-up, and discharge of uncomplicated SAM cases as per CMAM/national guidelines.
  • Monitor treatment adherence through standard enrollment criteria, distribution of nutrition vouchers, enhanced counselling, cooking demonstrations, and provision of micronutrient supplementation.
  • Ensure referral and reporting mechanisms are functional by checking that complicated cases are referred to higher-level facilities (SAM corner of UHC)
