Job Location: The job is based in Jashore district but with regular travel to upazila and union level for implementation of project activities smoothly.

Organization Overview

Banchte Shekha is a renowned non-governmental organization (NGO) in Bangladesh, established in 1976 by Dr. Angela Gomes, a prominent social worker and advocate for women’s empowerment. The name “Banchte Shekha,” meaning “Learn How to Survive,” reflects the organization’s mission to empower disadvantaged communities particularly women, children, and marginalized groups through education, skill development, and rights-based social advocacy.

Banchte Shekha is implementing a project titled “Body Talk 2” in Jashore district with financial and technical support from Liliane Fonds and Centre for Disability in Development (CDD). The project focuses on promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for children and youth with disabilities by improving their access to inclusive, accurate, and age-appropriate SRHR information and services.

Through community awareness, capacity building of service providers, and engagement with caregivers, educators, and community leaders, the project aims to address stigma, discrimination, and barriers that prevent children and youth with disabilities from exercising their rights. By fostering an inclusive and supportive environment, the initiative seeks to empower them to make informed decisions about their health and well-being and contribute to building a more equitable and accessible society.

Job Overview – SRHR Facilitator

The SRHR Facilitator will play a key role in implementing the Body Talk 2 Project under the guidance of the Project Coordinator. The position focuses on facilitating community engagement, delivering training, and strengthening the capacity of project staff, service providers, caregivers, and stakeholders to provide inclusive, rights-based SRHR interventions for children and youth with disabilities. The SRHR Facilitator will support the planning, organization, and facilitation of training programs to enhance knowledge and skills of project staff, caregivers, community stakeholders, and adolescents. They will ensure that all educational and training resources are accessible, accurate, age-appropriate, and disability-inclusive.

The role also involves mentoring participants, supporting community engagement initiatives to reduce stigma and discrimination, and contributing to the development and adaptation of training materials. Through these efforts, the SRHR Facilitator will help create an environment where children and youth with disabilities can exercise their rights, make informed health decisions, and participate fully in their communities.

Key Responsibilities – SRHR Facilitator

Community Sensitization and Advocacy

  • Conduct community sensitization activities to improve perceptions toward disability.
  • Engage households and community members in discussions on disability inclusion and rights.
  • Organize community-level advocacy initiatives to promote inclusion of children and youth with disabilities.
  • Conduct awareness sessions on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).
  • Facilitate awareness programs on ENT health, mental health, hygiene, and sanitation.
  • Promote inclusive attitudes and respect for the rights of persons with disabilities.

Early Identification and Inclusion

  • Support early identification of children with disabilities within communities.
  • Facilitate referrals for early intervention and support services.
  • Promote the inclusion of children with disabilities in mainstream schools.
  • Work with teachers and school authorities to support inclusive education practices.
  • Conduct accessibility assessments in community schools and recommend improvements.

Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) and Family Engagement

  • Mobilize community members to participate in Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) activities.
  • Collaborate with families to implement sustainable support measures for persons with disabilities.
  • Conduct prevention and awareness talks on disability and related health issues.
  • Facilitate referrals to appropriate services for persons with disabilities.
  • Conduct follow-up visits to ensure access to services and support.
  • Carry out regular home visits to monitor progress and provide guidance.
  • Support the development of skills, participation, and social integration of persons with disabilities.

Social Support and Service Linkages

  • Provide social support to children with disabilities and their families.
  • Identify children in need of care, protection, or specialized services.
  • Refer identified cases to appropriate service providers or institutions.
  • Follow up on referrals to ensure services are received.
  • Coordinate with local government bodies, authorities, and NGOs for service delivery.
  • Support the organization and facilitation of medical camps and community interventions.

Capacity Building and Training

  • Assist in organizing community-level training sessions and workshops.
  • Support facilitation of capacity-building programs for community members and caregivers.
  • Provide support for skills development initiatives for youth with disabilities.
  • Assist in facilitating capital support or assistance for income-generating activities.
  • Support the operation of Community Resource Centers.
  • Facilitate activities of Youth Panels and Student Forums.

Monitoring, Reporting, and Record Keeping

  • Maintain and update child record datasheets.
  • Prepare and update Individual Rehabilitation Plans (IRPs).
  • Use ICF-aligned logbooks for documentation and monitoring.
  • Document community outreach activities and program progress.
  • Prepare reports on field activities and program outcomes.
  • Inclusion, Rights, and Economic Empowerment
  • Promote rights-based and child-friendly approaches in all program activities.
  • Ensure disability inclusion in community interventions and services.
  • Encourage economic empowerment initiatives for persons with disabilities.
  • Support participation of persons with disabilities in program activities and decision-making processes.

Safeguarding and Do No Harm

  • Follow safeguarding and child protection policies in all program activities.
  • Apply the “Do No Harm” principle during planning and implementation of interventions.
  • Ensure safety, dignity, and well-being of children with disabilities and their families.
  • Provide appropriate social support when safeguarding concerns arise.

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform additional duties assigned by the Project Coordinator.
  • Support the effective implementation of project activities and objectives.
