Job Location: The job is based in Jashore district but with regular travel to upazila and union level for implementation of project activities smoothly.

Organization Overview:

Banchte Shekha is a renowned non-governmental organization (NGO) in Bangladesh, established in 1976 by Dr. Angela Gomes, a prominent social worker and advocate for women’s empowerment. The name “Banchte Shekha,” meaning “Learn How to Survive,” reflects the organization’s mission to empower disadvantaged communities particularly women, children, and marginalized groups through education, skill development, and rights-based social advocacy.

Banchte Shekha is implementing a project titled “Body Talk 2” in Jashore district with financial and technical support from Liliane Fonds and Centre for Disability in Development (CDD). The project focuses on promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for children and youth with disabilities by improving their access to inclusive, accurate, and age-appropriate SRHR information and services.

Through community awareness, capacity building of service providers, and engagement with caregivers, educators, and community leaders, the project aims to address stigma, discrimination, and barriers that prevent children and youth with disabilities from exercising their rights. By fostering an inclusive and supportive environment, the initiative seeks to empower them to make informed decisions about their health and well-being and contribute to building a more equitable and accessible society.

Job Overview: The Project Officer will play a pivotal role in supporting the Project Coordinator, SRHR Training Officer, SRHR Facilitator, Case Manager, and SRHR Community Interactors in implementing the Body Talk 2 Project, which aims to promote Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for children and youth with disabilities. The position is responsible for coordinating and managing project activities, facilitating community engagement, and strengthening the capacity of project staff, service providers, and other stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of inclusive and rights-based SRHR interventions. Under the guidance of the Project Coordinator, the Project Officer will support the planning, organization, and facilitation of training programs that enhance the knowledge and skills of project staff, caregivers, community stakeholders, and adolescents. The role ensures that all training and educational resources are accessible, accurate, age-appropriate, and disability-inclusive.

The Project Officer will also contribute to the development and adaptation of training materials, provide mentoring to participants, and support community engagement initiatives aimed at reducing stigma and discrimination. Through these efforts, the Project Officer will strengthen the capacity of local actors to provide inclusive SRHR information and services, fostering an environment that empowers children and youth with disabilities to exercise their rights, make informed health decisions, and participate fully in their communities.

Key Responsibilities (Project Officer):

Project Implementation and Coordination

  • Support the planning and implementation of project activities.
  • Coordinate with project team members to ensure smooth execution of activities.
  • Organize community outreach programs and field-level interventions.
  • Collaborate with local authorities, NGOs, and community groups to support project implementation.
  • in resource mobilization and logistical arrangements for project activities.

Capacity Building

  • Assist in organizing training sessions, workshops, and awareness programs for community stakeholders.
  • Support the development and implementation of capacity-building initiatives.
  • Supervise Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) workers and provide necessary guidance.
  • Support the preparation and implementation of Individual Rehabilitation Plans (IRPs).
  • Conduct home visits to monitor progress and support the participation of persons with disabilities.

Community Mobilization and Engagement

  • Mobilize community members and families to actively participate in CBR and SRHR activities.
  • Encourage participation of persons with disabilities in community development initiatives.
  • Facilitate referrals and follow-up support for persons with disabilities requiring services.
  • Promote inclusive livelihood and economic opportunities for persons with disabilities.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Liaise with local organizations, community leaders, and relevant institutions.
  • Coordinate with schools to promote inclusive education initiatives.
  • Work with health facilities to ensure access to healthcare services for persons with disabilities.
  • Strengthen partnerships with NGOs and community-based organizations.

Health, Hygiene, and Awareness

  • Conduct awareness sessions on ear, nose, and throat (ENT) health, mental health, hygiene, and sanitation.
  • Provide information on preventive healthcare practices for community members.
  • Refer individuals with health concerns to appropriate health facilities.
  • Support the organization of medical camps and health service delivery activities.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of project activities and beneficiary data.
  • Track project progress and document key achievements and challenges.
  • Collect field-level data and feedback from beneficiaries.
  • Prepare periodic reports on project activities and outcomes.
  • Support persons with disabilities in accessing disability identification cards and services.
  • Assist children and youth with disabilities in accessing educational stipends and support programs.

Inclusion, Safeguarding, and Do No Harm

  • Promote a rights-based and disability-inclusive approach in all project activities.
  • Ensure child-friendly and inclusive practices during community engagement.
  • Follow safeguarding policies and procedures to protect children and vulnerable groups.
  • Apply the “Do No Harm” principle in project planning and implementation.
  • Provide social and emotional support to children with disabilities and their families.

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform additional duties assigned by the supervisor to support project objectives.
  • Contribute to overall program effectiveness and organizational goals.
