∎ Job Purpose:
∎ The Communications Officer will be responsible for the design, management and implementation of a communications strategy of LEAN project (Leadership to Ensure Adequate Nutrition).
∎ The Leadership to Ensure Adequate Nutrition (LEAN) project aims to improve maternal and child nutrition in the remote areas of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) through a consortium of six partners (3 technical partners and 3 implementing partners) led by United Purpose (UP). LEAN Project consists of members from consortium partners. The project aims to break the perpetual cycle of under nutrition in 18 selected Upazilias under the Districts of Rangamati, Bandarban, and Khagrachari of CHT. The project is funded by the European Commission (EC) to improve maternal and child nutrition for 282,000 pregnant and lactating women, children under 5 and adolescent girls by providing holistic, nutrition-sensitive and nutrition-specific livelihoods models to diversify diets and income for the most vulnerable whilst working with local, district and national government to promote nutrition-sensitive governance at all levels. The project aims to achieve following three specific results across three districts of CHT:
∎ Improve capacity, commitment and accountability of national, regional and local institutions for a better integration of nutrition services in CHT;
∎ Enhance awareness, demand and consumption of nutritious food and direct nutrition inputs (DNIs), and improve WASH practices
∎ Strengthen vertical and horizontal alliances for nutrition sensitive, transparent and climate smart value chains.
∎ The Communications Officer is responsible for maintaining a close collaboration with LEAN project and it`s all partners (Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation, Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, Integrated Development Foundation, CARITAS and Jum Foundation) at the working level and ensuring harmonization between and incorporation within the corporate communications strategy. The Communications Officer contributes to outreach campaigns and helps drive resource mobilization and donor relations initiatives.
∎ More specifically Communication Officer will lead on the communications and visibility requirements of LEAN project and ensure compliance with EC guidelines; The Communications Officer will also support advocacy and outreach through intensive media/press coverage by building effective relationships with the media to promote and manage the coverage of UP project portfolio.
∎ The Communications Officer will be required to supervise members of the communications team. He will ensure the values of participation, partnership, sustainability, social responsibility, cost effectiveness, transparency and accountability.
∎ Key Relationships:
∎ Internal Project staff and Country Office team
∎ External Stakeholders, national and international development agencies/ NGO/ INGO/ Donors/ private sectors etc.
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Storytelling, Content development, Country Communication Strategy:
∎ He will be responsible to raise profile in terms of audience engagement, profile building and brand development of United Purpose Bangladesh. He will work towards a clearly defined set of goals that supports LEAN project's strategic vision and change journey.
∎ Will support the senior leadership team to raise the profile and impact of project's work in Bangladesh through creative, ambitious and strategic communications. The post holder intends to tell the story of LEAN project to its intended audiences using the most effective and impactful approaches and platforms. In this connection, he will orient and train the organization's staff on communication and visibility, branding, storytelling, media relation and content issues.
∎ Ensure high quality communication deliverables internally and externally to profile impact and success of the organization's work through strategic communication.
∎ Developing and managing communications content and tools.
∎ Developing digital strategies and campaigns as per projects need.
∎ Supporting programme and resource mobilization team.
∎ Oversee country communication strategy.
∎ LEAN project specific communications and visibility work as required by all consortium members under the guidance of LEAN Project Director. Capacity building of community stakeholders like WBC entrepreneurs on community video blogs
∎ Internal Communications, and Staff Management:
∎ Will work effectively and collaboratively in support of building a team-based culture of work, will perform all duties appropriately for a diverse environment.
∎ Will be accountable for leading UP's internal and external communications and management of the communications staff and resources.
∎ Encourage positive and professional approach to management.
∎ Performance and operational management of a small team working across multiple programmes and locations. Inspiring, motivating and supporting staff so that they are thinking and acting at their best, delivering high quality work, working as an effective team and meeting organizational and individual objectives.
∎ Support the professional development of the team to continuously develop skills and expertise and support career development aspirations.
∎ Develop materials to educate staff on communication practices.
∎ Coach and assist team members on improving communication skill.
∎ Perform communications research and monitor the progress of various communications strategies.
∎ External Communication and Outreach:
∎ To raise profile in terms of audience engagement, profile building and brand development through programme and influencing work in line with the Country Strategy.
∎ Website development in collaboration with IT team and its regular update
∎ Ensuring adequate media coverage for all programme activities, functions and press releases/press statements.
∎ To work closely with the project officers to develop campaigns materials.
∎ Attending external coordination meetings and representing UP if required.
∎ Manages the work of external communication consultants as needed and identify new consultants with additional expertise.
∎ Oversee the contents that will be made for community partners development.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Minimum 2 -3 years' experience
∎ Experience in web content, web development and social media outreach.
∎ Experience in digital photography, print and video production.
∎ Digital cartography and data visualization
∎ Preparation of case story and publication
∎ Excellent communication and networking skills
∎ Good time management and interpersonal skills
