  • Basic understanding of gender, protection, and accountability standards in humanitarian contexts.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially with women and marginalized groups.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team in challenging field environments.

  • Fluency in Bangla; understanding of Rohingya or Chittagonian dialects is must.

  • Ability to join immediately will be given priority

Responsibilities & Context:

Project: Self-reliance improvement of rohingya women through technical skills development training (WPP) Project

Location: Based in Ukhiya and frequent visit to Rohingya Camp 9,10,11 and 12

Contract type: Fixed Term (initially for 2 months, with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of funds)

Hours: Full time

Reports to: Project Manager, WPP Project

Organisation overview:

United Purpose is a UK based International development organisation working in Bangladesh since 1993.

Self Help Africa (SHA) and United Purpose (UP) merged in late 2021 to implement projects to end extreme hunger and poverty in 17 countries, mainly in sub-Saharan Africa. The merger doubled its size and reach, with SHA implementing poverty eradication projects in 17 countries in 2022. The group includes social enterprise subsidiaries Partner Africa, TruTrade, and Cumo Microfinance. In 2022, SHA will reach over six million people and invest €45m in over 100 development programs to improve food systems, access to markets, financial services, climate change, gender inequality, and access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene.

Job Purpose:

The "WPP Project, implementing by United Purpose Bangladesh and funded by International Organization for Migration (IOM), aims to address economic vulnerability among women in border communities, where limited livelihood opportunities and gender disparities hinder financial independence. The project aims to empower 200 women through entrepreneurship training in café operations and handicrafts, enabling them to establish women-led businesses and achieve economic self-sufficiency. Key activities include comprehensive skills training in café management and handicraft production, supplemented by business management learning and in-kind support such as equipment and materials. These activities will directly support 200 trained women equipped with business toolkits and resources to launch enterprises in Rohingya Camp 9, 10, 11, 12.

Community Mobilizers are key frontline staff responsible for implementing field-level activities of the “Self-Reliance Improvement of Rohingya Women through Technical Skills Development Training” project.

They will work directly with women beneficiaries from the Women Participation Project (WPP) to support identification, mobilization, training participation, and post-training follow-up. As the project targets 200 Rohingya women across four camps, the Community Mobilizers will serve as the main link between the project team, beneficiaries, community leaders, and Camp-in-Charge (CiC) offices.

The role is critical to ensuring active participation, proper communication, and effective implementation of the training, in-kind support, and café management activities, while maintaining protection, gender sensitivity, and accountability principles.

Key Responsibilities :

Key responsibilities include (not limited to):

1. Community Engagement & Beneficiary Mobilization

  • Support identification and selection of 200 women participants from WPP groups through participatory and inclusive approaches.

  • Facilitate community meetings, orientation sessions, and awareness events related to the project.

  • Mobilize participants to attend all training sessions (handicrafts, café operation, business development, and financial literacy).

  • Ensure consistent communication between beneficiaries and the project team to promote ownership and motivation.

  • Engage community leaders, Majhis, and CiC representatives to build community acceptance and support for women’s participation.

2. Training & Activity Support

  • Assist trainers and Project Officers during training sessions by managing attendance, logistics, and coordination.

  • Support the distribution of in-kind materials and equipment to beneficiaries and ensure proper recordkeeping.

  • Help monitor training quality, participant attendance, and feedback.

  • Provide follow-up support to trained women to ensure they are applying newly learned skills effectively.

3. Data Collection & Monitoring

  • Collect and record beneficiary data, attendance sheets, and distribution lists accurately using KOBO or paper-based tools.

  • Support post-distribution monitoring and household-level follow-up visits to assess utilization of materials and business progress.

  • Report field observations, challenges, and success stories to the Project Officer – MEAL and Project Manager.

  • Ensure confidentiality and accuracy in all data shared or stored.

4. Accountability & Safeguarding

  • Promote awareness of feedback and complaint mechanisms among project participants.

  • Immediately report any safeguarding concerns, misconduct, or feedback to the Project Manager or designated focal points.

  • Ensure all interactions with beneficiaries respect dignity, inclusion, and Do-No-Harm principles.

Key Relationships:

Internal: Interim Lead-DRM & ER Unit, Head of Finance & Admin, Project Manager, Finance & Admin Officer, HR & Logistics Officer and the project’s relevant staff of the Country Office and field office.

External: District levels local government authorities, relevant GOB line departments, health professionals and assistants, media, local communities and other stakeholders.
