Responsibilities & Context:

BRAC is an international development organisation founded in Bangladesh in 1972 that partners globally with over 100 million people living with inequality and poverty to create opportunities to realise their potential.

The Senior Technical Officer – Energy is responsible for providing technical leadership and field-based supervision for energy interventions, including solar photovoltaic systems, street solar lighting, and energy infrastructure development. The role ensures quality, safety, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with donor commitments and sector standards while promoting sustainable and innovative energy solutions within humanitarian settings.

  • Lead technical design, review, and supervision of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, electrical installations, and energy infrastructure in line with approved designs and donor requirements.

  • Ensure effective, timely, and quality implementation of energy interventions through the development and review of technical drawings, BoQs, cost estimates, and specifications for energy-related construction and maintenance works.

  • Conduct technical assessments and feasibility analyses to determine site suitability and optimize system performance and energy output.

  • Provide field-based technical supervision and guidance to ensure compliance with safety standards, quality benchmarks, and approved technical specifications.

  • Oversee installation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of solar and electrical systems to ensure operational efficiency, technical reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Contribute to beneficiary verification and intervention suitability assessments to ensure appropriate and inclusive energy service delivery.

  • Coordinate with relevant internal and external stakeholders to ensure integrated implementation of energy activities and alignment with Shelter Sector strategies.

  • Promote adoption of innovative, sustainable, and environmentally responsible energy technologies within program interventions.

  • Ensure integration of safeguarding, safety, environmental protection principles across all energy interventions.

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor in response to operational needs.

  • Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme's goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.

  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.

  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.
