Alongside individual legal aid, BLAST undertakes strategic litigation, or public interest litigation, as a key part of its advocacy for law and policy reforms to ensure effective legal protection of rights. Currently operating in 25 districts across the country, BLAST works through its staff lawyers (and paralegals and researchers) at headquarters and in each district unit, in collaboration with its enlisted panel of about 2600 lawyers across the country who provide legal redress to clients on a pro bono basis, with a nominal honorarium.
∎ Position Description: It is a mid-level position based at BLAST Head Office located in Dhaka under the project titled `Worker Empowerment and Advocacy in the RMG Sector supported by C & A Foundation. Though the position is based in Dhaka but will require frequent field trips to project areas within Chattogram, Dhaka and Gazipur. Experienced on project management, familiar with the existing labour law, interest to work with the workers` of RMG sector in order to improve industrial relation are required for the position. Key responsibilities include planning and overseeing day-to-day implementation of project activities, supervising the field staff and maintaining communication with focal points regarding legal services, awareness, advocacy, training and M&E to ensure smooth and timely completion of project activities.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Performing all duties and responsibilities under the direct supervision, instruction, direction and control of the Head of the Legal Cell;
∎ Interviewing clients for legal aid in Labour and/or Subordinate Courts to the Supreme Court and receiving applications for legal aid required;
∎ Advising clients in person, and/or through mobile app, telephone, e-mail etc as required;
∎ Ensuring prompt response/feedback of queries on mobile app and keeping update regularly
∎ Maintaining notes and records of all interviews with clients or mediation sessions or hearings in Court;
∎ Ensuring follow-up of each case of Labour Courts, Subordinate Courts and/or Supreme Court at HO as it progresses, particularly of project titled on Workers Empowerment and Advocacy in the RMG Sector and also of settled litigation according to the organizational action plan;
∎ Supervising and coordinating with Staff Lawyers and monitoring their duties and responsibilities particularly of WEARS and EGV project;
∎ Monitoring and managing cases filed and conduct litigation as and when necessary;
∎ Scrutinizing the merit of cases and giving opinion for filing cases before the Labour and/or subordinate court supreme Court at HO;
∎ Selecting PIL related matters particularly on Workers' issues and assisting and coordinating for filing cases in the Supreme Court or seeking advice on such matters from relevant persons including HED;
∎ Ensuring proper procedures are duly followed for legal aid services;
∎ Ensuring preservation of case files and related records including on the Case Management System (CMS);
∎ Assisting in preparing and preserving the consolidated quantitative report/statement (monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annual) on legal activities along with case studies on important settled litigation;
∎ Attending and organizing meeting and seminars as required;
∎ Frequently field visit;
∎ Performing any other relevant tasks as and when required by the management.

Additional Requirements:
∎ Flexibility to handle varied and demanding tasks and ability to balance priorities
∎ Ability to work independently, as well as member of a team, and to be flexible to accommodate the needs of stakeholders.
∎ Ability to lead the assignment and the team with remote supervision.
∎ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
