Job Context:
∎ BLAST is a leading national legal aid and human rights organization providing legal advice, mediation, and litigation services, and undertaking advocacy to ensure the rights of women, men and children living in poverty or facing discrimination/social exclusion. BLAST works through its Head Office in Dhaka and 25 District-level Offices with 2600+ panel lawyers and 100+partner organizations.
∎ BLAST is looking for Paralegal for Barishal, Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Jashore districts for its Legal Empowerment and Gender Diversity (LEGD) project. The Paralegal (LEGD Project) must be a highly motivated individual with a proven track record of work on LEGD project management and will help and assist the project activities. The Paralegal (LEGD Project) will facilitate BLAST`s efforts to implement law and policy reform to eliminate gender discriminatory provisions and practices that hinder access to justice for LEGD victims in Bangladesh.
∎ Project Duration: Up to June, 2022
Job Responsibilities:
∎ Ensure access to justice for individuals in the community as well as to provide increased responsiveness of local justice actors.
∎ Handle query of the legal issues and refer to relevant staff for legal service.
∎ Receive complain and applications from clients in the project area.
∎ Ensure implementation and reporting of project activities and achieve project objectives.
∎ Ensure project visibility in the project area.
∎ Communication with GO/NGO offices in project areas.
∎ Make referrals to Unit Office/Head Office, Legal Cell for pursuing mediation and litigation in appropriate cases and accompany clients to the Head Office if necessary.
∎ Liaise between lawyers and clients, other service providers and community leaders for victim support.
∎ Make necessary referrals for legal aid or other service seekers to service providing organisations as needed.
∎ Assist in carrying out advocacy activities at the local and national level for law and policy reform aimed at better protection of workers' rights.
∎ Follow up on cases.
∎ Maintain an applications database register, including certified and signed printouts of each claim forms.
∎ Prepare and preserve relevant information and documents for each applicant.
∎ Prepare monthly reports, event reports and other data reports, as required.
∎ Carry out any other activities as and when required.
Additional Requirements:
∎ Age 28 to 35 years
∎ Should have relevant experience in the NGO sector.
∎ Should have good experience to implement of project activities.
∎ Should have good experience to facilitate awareness sessions.
∎ Good writing and speaking skill in Bangla and English.
∎ Good computer skills in MS Office.
