∎ BLAST is a leading national legal aid and human rights organization in Bangladesh providing legal advice, mediation, and litigation services, and undertaking advocacy to ensure the rights of women, men, and children living in poverty or facing discrimination/social exclusion throughout the country. BLAST works through its Head Office in Dhaka and several District-level Offices with a network of panel lawyers and partner organizations.
∎ Position Description: It is a mid-level position based at Sylhet Unit Office located in Sylhet District. The Mediation Officer is responsible for planning and overseeing day-to-day implementation of Advice the clients directly and/or through telephone or e-mail, ensure follow-up of settled mediation according to the action plan, Ensure proper procedures are duly followed and maintained of records and registers as per guidelines. The Mediation Officer is required to support conduct awareness sessions for workers on rights, remedies, and services & participate in meetings, fact-finding activities organized by other partners` organizations.
∎ Interviewing clients and receiving applications for providing legal aid.
∎ Exploring and arranging mediation relating to compoundable disputes among disputants, particularly in family matters facilitated.
∎ Checking and maintaining the mediation register, money transaction register, and mediation diary, and case diary as per guidelines.
∎ Maintaining records and send the reports regarding mediation work to the Assistant Director Mediation at Head Office through the Unit Coordinator.
∎ Maintain records of the monthly list of cases being conducted by engaged panel lawyers.
∎ Facilitate in conducting awareness meetings at the community level (including sessions on disability rights).
∎ Ensure and monitor data entries in the BLAST Case Management system (CMS) regularly.
∎ Conduct workshops, seminars, training, and courses and arrange meetings with panel lawyers.
∎ Prepare inquiry reports for cases whenever required.
∎ Network/liaise with relevant government officials, NGOs, DPOs, and other actors as required, in consultation with the Coordinator,
∎ Prepare monthly/quarterly/half-yearly/yearly legal statements regarding applications received, mediation, litigation, and cases studies as per guidelines.
∎ Performing all other functions and assignments as directed from time to time.
∎ Minimum 5 years experience in the relevant field in a similar position.
∎ Have in-depth knowledge of the Mediation Process.
∎ Have the ability to work independently in a pro bono service manner.
∎ Strong analytical & problem-solving ability.
∎ Hard-working, proactive, and able to work in a team under pressure.
∎ Good writing, speaking, and research skills both in Bangla and English.
∎ Proficient in MS Office.
∎ Proportionate with experience and BLAST`s salary scale.
