Job Context:
∎ Project Description: Bangladesh Legal Aid And Services Trust (BLAST) is the leading national non-governmental legal aid and services organization. Recently BLAST has been implementing the project titled "Empowering Workers for Justice (EWJ)" partnering with The Rule of Law Collaborative at the University of South Carolina (USC-ROLC). This project aims to reinforce the ability of construction and tannery workers (Shoe and leather goods-producing workers) to organize, self-advocate, confront abuses, and push for reform on both an operational and policy level. The project focuses on the construction and leather goods workers who are among the most vulnerable in Bangladesh and aims to support them in securing their rights with a multi-faceted approach. By forming and building capacity for SHGs (Self-help groups), workers will have the knowledge of organizing structure and skills needed to serve as their advocates.
∎ Position Description: We invite applications from potential candidates having demonstrated interest in working on labour rights (LR) issues. Fellows are expected to include a wide range of individuals involved in LR advocacy, such as lawyers, activists, journalists, etc. S/he will be responsible for conducting research work in relation to the construction and tannery (i.e. leather goods manufacturing) workers under the close supervision of the BLAST Research Cell.
∎ The fellowship will run for 06 (six) months from the date of appointment.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Assist BLAST in organizing the online symposium, preparing concept notes, communicating with national and international experts, preparing content, etc.
∎ Participate in the mentorship program established by BLAST.
∎ Analyze workers' rights situation in the construction and tannery (i.e. leather goods manufacturing) and prepare recommendations on the progress of current issues and future trends.
∎ Work on the legal reform proposal to be prepared by a research consultant.
∎ Make input into the advocacy strategy to be developed by a research consultant.
∎ Assist in ongoing workers' rights advocacy.
∎ Interview workers, SHG members, and relevant stakeholders for situation analysis.
∎ Fellows will be tasked with collecting evidence and conducting fieldwork as per the methodology of the research to be conducted. Finally, fellows shall have to submit a research report regarding the works done during their fellowship and deliver a final presentation before relevant project personnel, and any relevant academics, researchers, and rights activists who may be invited to hear the presentation. Finalize the report incorporating the suggestions and disseminate the research report.
∎ Perform other tasks as may be required for the fellowship.

∎ Both males and females are allowed to apply
∎ Prospective fellows must provide evidence of significant, comparable, and relevant work experience.
∎ Should have significant experience working on WR issues.
∎ Applicants must be highly motivated and organized.
∎ Able to work quickly and well under pressure, both independently and as a team member, juggling multiple tasks and meeting tight deadlines.
∎ Strong communication skills and proven experience in interpreting information and report writing in Bangla and English.
∎ Good computer knowledge especially in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and also should be good in email communication.

Salary:
∎ Monthly stipend BDT 25000 (including conveyance).
