Responsibilities & Context:

Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST), one of the largest legal services organisations in Bangladesh is proud to announce the ‘Equality Fellowship’ programme under the project ‘SHUCHONA (The Initiative) Phase II’. This fellowship aims to involve young lawyers and activists in multiple research and advocacy efforts, designed to encourage equality and combat discrimination for gender justice and social inclusion. The programme aligns with SHUCHONA`s goals to ensure the legal empowerment of women, girls, and gender-diverse communities, foster an exchange of knowledge to understand on-the-ground issues and advance legal research to create a valuable resource for future advocacy efforts.

Objectives: The Equality Fellowship aims,

  • To empower young lawyers and activists by equipping them with research and advocacy skills.

  • To focus on issues of gender equality and non-discrimination in marginalized communities through conducting research and developing solutions with the guidance of experts

  • To cultivate a new generation of activists who will contribute to legal and social change in Bangladesh.

Scope of Research: Each fellow shall conduct a research study that focuses on, but is not limited to, one of the following topics:

  • Compensation fund for rape victims.

  • Menstruation, sanitation, and other hygiene issues of women workers at their workplace;

  • Diversity and inclusion in the workplace;

  • Sexual harassment at workplace and educational institutions;

  • Combating online violence against women from marginalized communities; Promoting legal knowledge among gender-diverse communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Redesign the initial research proposal based on guidance from the selected mentor

  • Conduct a six-month research project focused on gender equality and non-discrimination, with a dedicated mentor for guidance.

  • Collect evidence through various methods of data collection, including FGDs/ KIIs/ IDIs/ Survey.

  • Draft fact-finding reports based on the gathered evidence.

  • Adhere to the established research methodology for their chosen area.

  • Actively participate in community-based meetings throughout the fellowship.

  • Contribute to the reporting and documentation of these community meetings

  • Upon completion, submit a comprehensive study report detailing the research findings, methodology employed, and activities conducted during the fellowship.

  • Deliver a final presentation of the research findings to relevant stakeholders.

  • Carry out additional tasks as needed to support relevant activities of BLAST.
