Experience in Rohingya Crisis Response and development field, Mental Health and Psychosocial support, GBV prevention and response, Protection principles, and disability inclusion
Ability to consult and negotiate with the management team and donor parties Knowledge in rights-based community development, Education, income generation/livelihood, Market Linkage, WASH, Protection, DRR/tree plantation, and other related areas, or willingness to learn.·
Experience in community mobilization, linkage, and liaison. Influencing skills, Polite & reasonable
Active listening skills and ability to deal with sensitive situations with integrity Fluent in speaking & writing English and Bangla and knowledgeable about the local language (Chattogram)
Have a good understanding of gender and organizational gender policy and act accordingly. Be aware of and abide by the organizational Child Safeguarding and PSEAH Policy and practices

A. Summary of Project
RDRS Bangladesh, has been implementing RDRS Emergency Response Program (RERP) in Rohingya camps and nearby host communities in Cox’s Bazar district since 2019. The RERP contributes to international efforts to meet the humanitarian, and protection needs and increase self-reliance and resilience of the Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMNs) and host communities through Income Generating Activities (IGAs), tree plantation, life-skills with livelihoods and leadership development training. The project ‘‘Environmental Protection and Drug Abuse Response in Rohingya Refugees Camps and Host Communities, Cox’s Bazar’’ is implemented under the broader RDRS Emergency Response Program (RERP). The project aims to address drug abuse and environmental challenges in Rohingya refugee camps and nearby host communities through awareness activities, psychosocial support, counselling services, and community engagement. The initiative seeks to reduce substance abuse risks, promote mental well-being, and encourage environmentally responsible practices among the target population.
B. Summary of Position
Under the overall responsibility and control of the project manager. The counselor will be responsible for the implementation of psychosocial support activities within the Rohingya refugee camps and host communities. This role requires an understanding of the specific psychosocial needs of the population, including women, children, persons with disabilities, and youth. The Assistant Project Officer will work closely with community leaders, volunteers, and other stakeholders to contribute to the mental well-being and resilience of the community.
C. Description of Responsibilities
Major responsibilities of this position are as follows:
Provide individual and group counselling to individuals affected by substance abuse and related psychosocial challenges in Rohingya refugee camps and host communities in Cox’s Bazar District.
Identify individuals at risk of drug use and psychosocial distress, and provide appropriate psychosocial support and referral to relevant services when necessary.
Facilitate community engagement sessions to raise awareness on drug abuse prevention, mental health, and healthy coping strategies for youth, families and community members.
Facilitate group sessions, family counselling and peer support activities to promote positive behavioral change and recovery support.
Work closely with community leaders, volunteers and youth groups to ensure active participation in psychosocial support initiatives, aligning with the social cohesion approach.
Collaborate with mental health professionals and organizations to enhance the quality and effectiveness of counseling services.
Conduct training sessions for community leaders, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
Collect and analyze data to measure the impact of interventions, contributing to data collection, monitoring, and regular reports for project activities.
Maintain case documentation, counselling records, and activity reports in accordance with project guidelines.
Assist in identifying protection and psychosocial risks, and contribute to referral pathways for individuals requiring specialized services.
Conduct capacity building activities project staff and community people.
Represent RDRS in coordination meetings with stakeholders.
Ensure effective communication and coordination with external partners to enhance the synergy of efforts in the field.
Perform any other relevant tasks assigned by the Project Manager to ensure effective implementation of the project.
