• Experience working with Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), self-help groups, producer groups, or community-based organizations will be an advantage.

• Nature of Job: Multi years Project, Fixed Term Contract for One year (Yearly renewable based on performance)

Mission of the Position:

The Assistant Project Officer- DRR is responsible for supporting the planning and implementation of disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate resilience, emergency preparedness, and community-based child protection interventions under the STEP Project. The position will work closely with communities, Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), Community Child Protection Committees (CCPCs), Disaster Management Committees (DMCs), Community Own Resource Persons (CORPs), local authorities, and other stakeholders to strengthen community resilience, protect children and vulnerable families, and promote sustainable disaster preparedness and response systems.

Key performance areas and main responsibilities:

Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Resilience

• Support community entry processes, stakeholder mapping, and risk assessments in project locations.

• Assist in implementing community-based Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) activities in accordance with the project work plan.

• Support the formation and strengthening of Disaster Management Committees (DMCs) and other community disaster preparedness structures.

• Assist in developing and updating community disaster preparedness, emergency response, evacuation, and shelter management plans.

• Support the establishment and strengthening of community early warning systems (EWS) and dissemination of early warning information.

• Facilitate community awareness sessions on disaster preparedness, flood resilience, climate change adaptation, water safety, and environmental conservation.

• Organize and support community disaster simulation exercises, evacuation drills, campaigns, and awareness events.

• Coordinate school- and community-based DRR awareness programmes and campaigns.

• Conduct regular monitoring visits to assess community preparedness and implementation progress.

Child Protection and Safeguarding

• Support the establishment and strengthening of Community Child Protection Committees (CCPCs).

• Facilitate awareness sessions on child rights, child protection, safeguarding, positive parenting, prevention of child marriage, child labour, violence against children, and other protection risks.

• Promote safe identification, referral, and reporting mechanisms for children at risk in collaboration with relevant service providers.

• Support child-friendly spaces (CFS) and community-based psychosocial support activities during emergencies where applicable.

• Assist in organizing child protection campaigns, community dialogues, and school awareness sessions.

• Promote community awareness on gender-based violence (GBV) prevention, safeguarding, inclusion, and social norms change by engaging women, men, boys, and girls.

• Ensure that all project activities are implemented in accordance with safeguarding and child protection policies.

Community Mobilization and Coordination

• Mobilize community members to participate in DRR and child protection activities.

• Maintain regular coordination with local government institutions, Union Disaster Management Committees (UDMCs), schools, health facilities, community leaders, and relevant service providers.

• Coordinate with Community Own Resource Persons (CORPs), volunteers, and CBOs to support effective implementation of project activities.

• Support community consultation meetings and facilitate community participation in project planning and implementation.

Monitoring, Documentation and Reporting

• Collect field data and maintain updated records of DRR and child protection activities.

• Support routine monitoring of project indicators in collaboration with the MEAL team.

• Prepare field visit reports, activity reports, and monthly progress updates.

• Document success stories, lessons learned, best practices, and community case studies.

• Maintain proper documentation of trainings, awareness sessions, committee meetings, emergency drills, and community feedback.

• Report safeguarding concerns and protection risks immediately in accordance with organizational procedures.

Other Responsibilities

• Represent the project in local coordination meetings and technical forums as assigned.

• Ensure visibility of project activities in accordance with organizational and donor guidelines.

• Perform any other duties assigned by the Line Manager to support effective implementation of the project.
