Friends in Village Development Bangladesh (FIVDB) is implementing the “Locally Led Anticipatory Action (LLAA) for Social Cohesion in Cox’s Bazar” project, delivered in partnership with Christian Aid (CA). Through an LLAA approach, the project enables Local and National Actors (LNAs) to identify, design and lead their own anticipatory, response and resilience actions, strengthening risk and early-warning information systems, building local decision-making authority and early action capacity, and developing sustainable local financing mechanisms for anticipatory action. The overall objective is to contribute to enabling timely and needs-based responses to climate-related shocks to Rohingya refugees and host communities in Ukhiya and Teknaf upazilas of Cox’s Bazar.

The Community Volunteer will be a trained community volunteer who works as the main bridge between the project team, community groups, local government offices, and the wider community. Their key role is to work closely with the community and LNAs building their capacity in program implementation. The volunteer will help make sure that decisions about disaster preparation are made by the community itself, using both weather/science information and the community's own knowledge and experience. The position is contractual for the project duration, with an initial three (3) months’ probation period. The volunteer will work regularly in the field to help carry out the LLAA activities, contributing to the project outcomes related to information systems, early action implementation, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Support project staff run training sessions for community groups on how to prepare for and respond early to disasters.

• Disseminate what was learned in training to community members and group representatives.

• Support to organize and act as a co-facilitate trainings, meetings, sessions, review discussions, and community awareness activities.

• Stay in regular contact with community groups and organizations involved in the project.

• Lead sessions with households and community groups to map out local risks, agree on warning signs, and help build action plans for what to do when a disaster is coming.

• Collect and record information using simple tools, such as KOBO forms.

• Keep in regular touch with local government offices and disaster management committees, to make sure the community's early action plans line up with official government warnings and systems.

• Actively encourage women, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups to take part in discussions and decisions about disaster preparation.

• Support to carry out the agreed early actions in the field following safety rules when a disaster warning is triggered.

• Report regularly to the assigned project staff and take part in review meetings after any disaster action is carried out.

• Ensure compliance with FIVDB/Christian Aid safeguarding, PSEAH, financial and administrative procedures in all field activities.

• Coordinate with camp-level and upazila-level sectoral structures and Disaster Management Committees (DMCs), adapting to new developments as per sector standards.

• Collaborate with relevant stakeholders at community, camp and host-community levels to support LLAA and social cohesion outcomes.

• Represent FIVDB at relevant field-level meetings and with local stakeholders as required.
