SOS Children's Village International in Bangladesh (www.sos-bangladesh.org) is a non-governmental social devolvement organisation provides care for the children who have lost parental care or who are at risk of losing parental care and deprived of caring family environment. SOS Children’s Village International is probably the largest private child welfare humanitarian organization working more than 130 countries and territories in the world. In Bangladesh, we started our operations in Dhaka in 1972, and since then we have expanded our activities from here to Rajshahi, Khulna, Bagerhat, Chattogram, Bogura, Kurigram, Gazipur and Sylhet.

Our Programmes contribute to delivering on SDGs with a special focus on our target group to improve national social protection system, fighting inequalities, promoting access to quality education, strengthening youth employability and ending violence against children.

Position: Project Officer - Training and Organizational Development

Project Name: STEP Project

Project Type: Partnership Project in Partnership with IDEA, Sylhet

Location of job: SOS- National Office, Dhaka

Nature of Job: Multi years Project, Fixed Term Contract for One year (Yearly renewable based on performance)

Mission of the Position:

The Project Officer – Training and Organizational Development is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing organizational development and capacity strengthening initiatives for Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), Community Own Resource Persons (CORPs), local CSOs, project staff, implementing partners, and community structures. The position supports the design and delivery of training, coaching, mentoring, organizational capacity assessments, and institutional strengthening interventions to enhance community ownership, sustainability, and quality implementation of the project.

Main Clients:

  • Community-Based Organizations (CBOs)

  • Community Own Resource Persons (CORPs)

  • Local CSOs and implementing partners

  • Project staff

  • Community structures (e.g., Child Protection Committees, Disaster Management Committees, Village Savings and Loan Associations)

  • Government departments and relevant stakeholders

  • Technical consultants and resource persons

Key performance areas and main responsibilities:

Training and Capacity Development

  • Develop and implement the project's Training and Organizational Development Strategy in line with project objectives.

  • Conduct Organizational Capacity Assessments (OCAs), Training Needs Assessments (TNAs), and institutional capacity gap analyses for CBOs, CSOs, project staff, and community structures.

  • Develop annual, quarterly, and activity-based training plans and learning calendars.

  • Design and update training curricula, facilitator guides, learning materials, toolkits, and job aids.

  • Organize and facilitate training programmes, workshops, orientation sessions, coaching, mentoring, and exposure visits.

  • Coordinate residential and field-based training programmes for Community Own Resource Persons (CORPs), community volunteers, project staff, and partner organizations.

  • Ensure participatory, gender-sensitive, inclusive, and adult-learning approaches are applied in all training programmes.

Organizational Development

  • Support CBOs and local CSOs in preparing and implementing Organizational Development (OD) and Capacity Improvement Plans based on OCA findings.

  • Strengthen organizational systems, governance, leadership, safeguarding, programme management, resource mobilization, financial management, accountability, and community engagement mechanisms of partner organizations.

  • Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring support to strengthen institutional performance and sustainability of community organizations.

  • Facilitate the development and use of organizational tools, guidelines, trackers, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and monitoring systems.

  • Promote organizational learning, knowledge sharing, innovation, and continuous improvement among project stakeholders.

Technical Coordination

  • Coordinate with technical specialists, consultants, government departments, NGOs, and development partners to ensure quality training delivery and institutional strengthening.

  • Support capacity-building initiatives related to child protection, safeguarding, disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate resilience, livelihoods, governance, MEAL, and community development.

  • Ensure effective coordination of all training logistics, participant management, venue arrangements, documentation, and follow-up activities.

Monitoring, Documentation and Learning

  • Monitor the effectiveness and quality of training and organizational development interventions through pre/post assessments, participant feedback, coaching visits, and follow-up evaluations.

  • Maintain comprehensive databases of trained participants, organizational assessments, mentoring records, and capacity development progress.

  • Document lessons learned, best practices, case studies, success stories, and organizational development achievements.

  • Prepare periodic reports on training activities, organizational development progress, capacity-building outcomes, challenges, and recommendations.

  • Contribute to project reports, donor reports, knowledge products, and learning events.

Other Responsibilities

  • Support project implementation by undertaking any additional responsibilities assigned by the Line Manager to ensure successful achievement of project objectives.
