Experience – Essential

• Minimum 2 years of relevant clinical nursing experience.

• Experience in providing nursing care in a hospital, clinic, primary healthcare centre, or other relevant healthcare setting.

• Experience in patient assessment, vital signs monitoring, medication administration, treatment support, and patient observation.

• Experience in clinical documentation, patient record management, and maintaining relevant nursing registers.

• Ability to identify danger signs and promptly escalate patients requiring urgent clinical attention.

Desirable

• Previous experience working in a PHCC, hospital, clinic, Field Hospital, or humanitarian health programme.

• Experience working with NGOs, INGOs, or humanitarian organizations.

• Previous experience in the Rohingya Response or other humanitarian settings.

• Experience in outpatient care, inpatient care, emergency care, triage, or primary healthcare.

• Experience working within a multidisciplinary and multicultural healthcare team.

Working Conditions

• The position will be based at a Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC) in the Rohingya Response, Cox’s Bazar.

• The role may involve working on a roster or shift basis, including weekends, public holidays, or emergency duty, depending on operational requirements.

• The position holder will work under the guidance and supervision of the Senior Staff Nurse and relevant clinical supervisors.

• The role involves working in a challenging and fast-paced humanitarian healthcare environment.

• The position holder may be required to support service delivery during disease outbreaks, natural disasters, fires, mass casualty incidents, or other humanitarian emergencies.

Duty Station: Camp 5, 12 & 21 Cox’s Bazar

Reports to: Senior Staff Nurse

Accountable to: Senior Medical Officer

Position Summary

The Staff Nurse will be responsible for providing safe, high-quality, timely, and patient-centred nursing care at the Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC) in the Rohingya Response. The position holder will support patient assessment, provide nursing care, administer prescribed medicines and treatments, monitor patient conditions, assist in clinical procedures, and ensure accurate documentation and continuity of care.

The Staff Nurse will work under the technical guidance and supervision of the Senior Staff Nurse, Clinical In-Charge, and other relevant healthcare professionals. The position holder will work closely with Medical Officers, Midwives, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Nutrition, MHPSS, Community Health, and other relevant teams to ensure safe and effective healthcare service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Nursing Care & Patient Management

• Provide safe, respectful, timely, and patient-centred nursing care to patients attending the PHCC.

• Conduct nursing assessments within the scope of practice, including taking and recording vital signs, relevant patient history, symptoms, and other clinical observations.

• Monitor patients' conditions and promptly identify and report any deterioration or change in clinical status.

• Provide prescribed nursing care, treatments, and interventions according to approved clinical protocols and instructions.

• Ensure appropriate patient observation and follow-up as required.

• Assist patients with basic care needs and promote comfort, dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.

• Provide respectful and non-discriminatory care to all patients.

Patient Assessment, Triage & Referral Support

• Support patient assessment and prioritization according to clinical urgency and assigned responsibilities.

• Identify danger signs, severe illness, and patients requiring urgent medical attention.

• Immediately inform the Senior Staff Nurse, Medical Officer, Clinical In-Charge, or other appropriate healthcare provider about emergency or deteriorating patients.

• Provide initial nursing care and support stabilization within the scope of professional practice and facility capacity.

• Assist in preparing patients for referral or transfer to higher-level healthcare facilities.

• Support appropriate communication with patients and caregivers regarding referral procedures and follow-up requirements.

• Maintain accurate nursing and referral-related documentation.

Medication Administration & Treatment

• Administer prescribed medicines safely and accurately according to approved prescriptions, protocols, and scope of practice.

• Verify patient identity and ensure appropriate medicine administration procedures are followed.

• Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions, allergies, side effects, or other medication-related concerns.

• Immediately report medication errors, adverse drug reactions, or near misses according to organizational procedures.

• Coordinate with Medical Officers, Senior Staff Nurses, and Pharmacy staff regarding medication-related concerns.

• Ensure accurate and timely documentation of medicines and treatments administered.

• Promote safe medication practices and patient adherence to prescribed treatment.

Clinical Procedures & Treatment Support

• Perform approved nursing procedures within the scope of professional practice.

• Prepare patients and required equipment for examinations, investigations, and clinical procedures.

• Assist Medical Officers and other healthcare providers during patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.

• Monitor patients before, during, and after clinical procedures as required.

• Ensure proper cleaning, handling, and safe use of nursing and medical equipment.

• Identify and promptly report complications or changes in patient condition.

• Ensure appropriate documentation of nursing procedures and interventions.

Emergency Care & Stabilization

• Provide immediate nursing support to patients presenting with emergency or acute conditions.

• Assist in initial assessment, stabilization, and emergency management within the scope of practice and facility capacity.

• Support Medical Officers and other healthcare providers during emergency situations.

• Ensure emergency equipment and essential supplies in the assigned area are available and ready for use.

• Participate in emergency preparedness activities, drills, and response activities.

• Support timely referral and transfer of patients requiring higher-level care.

• Maintain accurate documentation of emergency nursing care and patient transfer.

Infection Prevention & Control (IPC)

• Follow Infection Prevention and Control procedures at all times.

• Practice and promote proper hand hygiene and standard precautions.

• Ensure appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

• Support proper cleaning, disinfection, and safe waste management practices within assigned service areas.

• Follow appropriate procedures when caring for patients with suspected or confirmed infectious diseases.

• Identify and report potential IPC risks, breaches, or gaps to the appropriate supervisor.

• Support IPC measures during disease outbreaks and other public health emergencies.

Clinical Quality & Patient Safety

• Provide nursing care in accordance with approved national guidelines, standard operating procedures, organizational protocols, and professional nursing standards.

• Follow evidence-based nursing practices and maintain high standards of patient care.

• Identify and report clinical risks, patient safety concerns, or gaps in service delivery.

• Follow instructions and recommendations provided through clinical supervision and quality improvement processes.

• Participate in clinical audits, case reviews, supportive supervision, and quality improvement activities as required.

• Promote patient dignity, safety, confidentiality, and non-discriminatory healthcare services.

Clinical Documentation & Patient Records

• Maintain accurate, complete, timely, and confidential nursing documentation.

• Record vital signs, nursing assessments, treatments, medicines administered, patient observations, and follow-up instructions.

• Properly maintain nursing registers, treatment records, and other required clinical documents.

• Support the accurate completion of referral and transfer documentation.

• Ensure records are maintained according to organizational procedures and reporting requirements.

• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with organizational data protection procedures.

Medicines, Medical Supplies & Equipment

• Ensure appropriate use of medicines, medical supplies, and nursing equipment within assigned service areas.

• Monitor the availability of essential nursing and medical supplies and report shortages or stock-outs promptly.

• Ensure proper storage, handling, and accountability of assigned medical supplies.

• Report damaged, malfunctioning, expired, or unsafe equipment and supplies to the appropriate supervisor.

• Support the rational and appropriate use of available medical supplies.

• Assist in maintaining the readiness of emergency equipment and essential supplies.

Coordination & Multidisciplinary Teamwork

• Work closely with the Senior Staff Nurse, Clinical In-Charge, Medical Officers, Midwife Lead, Midwives, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Nutrition, MHPSS, Community Health, and other relevant teams.

• Coordinate patient care, treatment, investigations, referrals, and follow-up according to assigned responsibilities.

• Participate in clinical meetings, case discussions, nursing meetings, and programme review meetings as required.

• Communicate clinical concerns, patient safety issues, and service delivery challenges to the appropriate supervisor.

• Support effective communication and teamwork among PHCC service providers.

• Coordinate with referral facilities and other service providers when required.

Health Information & Reporting

• Ensure accurate recording of nursing and patient care activities.

• Maintain and update relevant registers, treatment records, and service delivery information.

• Support the preparation of daily, weekly, monthly, and other required reports.

• Ensure data and records are complete, accurate, and submitted on time.

• Report unusual disease patterns, clinical incidents, or significant public health concerns through appropriate channels.

• Maintain confidentiality of patient and programme information.

Professional Development & Capacity Building

• Participate in clinical training, orientation, refresher sessions, case discussions, and professional development activities.

• Maintain updated knowledge of relevant nursing standards, clinical guidelines, and organizational protocols.

• Participate in supportive supervision and on-the-job learning activities.

• Share relevant knowledge and learning with colleagues as appropriate.

• Follow updates to organizational clinical protocols and relevant health sector guidance.

Emergency Preparedness & Humanitarian Response

• Maintain readiness to provide essential nursing services during disease outbreaks, fires, natural disasters, mass casualty incidents, and other humanitarian emergencies.

• Participate in emergency preparedness planning, drills, and response activities as required.

• Support the continuity of essential healthcare and nursing services during emergencies.

• Assist in organizing and maintaining emergency supplies and equipment in assigned service areas.

• Remain flexible to undertake additional responsibilities based on emergency and programme requirements.

Monthly Gross Salary: BDT 57,750 /= (Only)

Bonus and other benefits: 10% of the monthly gross salary.
