Working Experience:
• Minimum 2 years of relevant clinical experience in maternal and newborn health services in hospital/Field hospital/ maternity centers at camp settings is a MUST.
• Demonstrated experience in antenatal care, normal delivery, postnatal care, and essential newborn care.
• Experience in identifying and responding to maternal and newborn complications.
• Experience in maintaining clinical documentation and patient records.
Desirable
• Previous experience in humanitarian, refugee, camp, NGO, or resource-constrained settings.
• Training in Respectful Maternal Care, BEmONC, Essential Newborn Care, Helping Babies Breathe (HBB), Neonatal Resuscitation, VCAT or other relevant maternal and newborn health training.

Responsibilities & Context: Job Description: Midwife – PHCC, Camp 5, 12 and 21, Cox’s Bazar
Position Summary
Partners in Health and Development (PHD), in collaboration with Save the Children Bangladesh, provides emergency, maternal, neonatal, and child health services to Rohingya refugees and the surrounding host community through its health facilities in Cox’s Bazar.
The Midwife will be responsible for providing quality, respectful, and evidence-based maternal and newborn health services in a field hospital setting. The position holder will support antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, and immediate newborn care, including the management of normal deliveries, early identification of complications, emergency response, stabilization, and timely referral.
The Midwife will work closely with Medical Officers, Nurses, Senior Midwives, and other multidisciplinary team members to ensure safe and comprehensive care for mothers and newborns in accordance with approved clinical protocols, infection prevention and control standards, and humanitarian principles.
Duty Station: Camp 5, 12 and 21, Cox’s Bazar
Reports to: Midwife Lead
Accountable to: Clinical Coordinator
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
1. Antenatal Care
- Provide routine antenatal care and assessment to pregnant women according to approved clinical guidelines and protocols.
- Monitor maternal health, including vital signs and fetal well-being.
- Identify high-risk pregnancies and danger signs and ensure timely consultation, referral, or escalation to the appropriate clinician.
- Provide counseling on nutrition, birth preparedness, danger signs, personal hygiene, and other essential maternal health issues.
- Support pregnant women and their families with appropriate health education and counseling.
2. Labour and Delivery Care
- Assess women presenting in labour and provide appropriate monitoring and care throughout the labour process.
- Conduct and manage normal vaginal deliveries according to approved clinical protocols.
- Monitor and accurately document the progress of labour using appropriate tools, including the partograph,WHO labor care guide where applicable.
- Monitor maternal and fetal vital signs during labour and delivery.
- Provide respectful maternity care while ensuring privacy, dignity, confidentiality, and informed consent.
- Identify complications and obstetric emergencies promptly and immediately notify the responsible Medical Officer or senior medical officer.
- Assist in the initial management and stabilization of obstetric emergencies, including postpartum haemorrhage, eclampsia, prolonged or obstructed labour, and other complications, within the scope of practice and established protocols.
- Assist the clinical team during complicated deliveries and emergency obstetric procedures when required.
- Practice & promote evidence-based care.
- Support in preparation before operative procedure.
3. Postnatal and Newborn Care
- Provide immediate postnatal care to mothers following delivery.
- Monitor mothers for postpartum complications and ensure timely referral or escalation when necessary.
- Conduct initial assessment and essential care of newborns immediately after birth.
- Support newborn thermal care, breastfeeding initiation, cord care, infection prevention, and other essential newborn care practices.
- Assist in newborn resuscitation and stabilization during emergencies according to training, clinical protocols, and scope of practice.
- Identify sick or high-risk newborns and ensure timely referral to the appropriate unit or clinician, including SCANU/NICU where available.
- Provide support and counseling to mothers and caregivers on breastfeeding, newborn care, hygiene, family planning, and postnatal danger signs.
4. Emergency and Referral Support
- Respond promptly and confidently to maternal and newborn emergencies.
- Assist with emergency stabilization and management within the scope of professional practice.
- Ensure timely communication with Medical Officers and other relevant clinical staff during emergency situations.
- Prepare and support patients for referral to higher-level facilities when required.
- Complete relevant referral documentation and maintain continuity of care.
5. Infection Prevention, Safety and Quality of Care
- Maintain strict infection prevention and control (IPC) practices in the labour room, maternity ward, and other assigned areas.
- Ensure proper cleaning, sterilization, and safe handling of medical equipment and supplies.
- Follow waste management and occupational health and safety procedures.
- Maintain patient safety, confidentiality, dignity, and respectful maternity care at all times.
- Follow organizational policies, clinical guidelines, SOPs, and relevant national and international standards.
6. Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records, including ANC, labour, delivery, postnatal, newborn, referral, and other relevant registers.
- Ensure complete documentation of assessments, care provided, outcomes, complications, and referrals.
- Support the preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly service data and reports as required.
- Maintain confidentiality and proper management of patient information and medical records.
- Report maternal, newborn, or other significant clinical incidents, maternal and perinatal death,high risk cases according to organizational procedures.
7. Teamwork and Coordination
- Work closely with Medical Officers, Nurses, Midwives, and other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Participate in bed side clinical handovers and ensure continuity of care between shifts.
- Coordinate with relevant departments, including Emergency, IPD, OT, Pharmacy, Laboratory, SCANU/NICU, and referral services.
- Participate in team meetings, clinical reviews, emergency drills, and other relevant coordination activities.
- Support junior staff, assistants, or trainees through guidance and on-the-job learning when assigned.
- To promote a safe environment for patients, visitors and co-workers including the implementations of infection control policies of the center
- Ensure adherence to infection prevention and control measures along with Standard Precautions of the facility. Ensure periodic sterilization of surgical instruments.
- Coordination and provide support to IYCF-E, MHPSS, EPI service and volunteers (CHWs, CMHWs, TBAs)
- Ensure patient confidentiality is respected, and that all consultations are conducted in a dignified and respectful manner
- Delivery of hygiene promotion, health education and patient/care giver/ peer team counselling
- Provide ASRHR session as representation and formation of team with coordination of MHPSS, Nutrition,
- Perform to assist GBV survivors by CMR, IPV service to create response and ensure safe- confidential referral along with linkage CP (if needed).
- Maintenance of regular stock of RH essential medicine/ commodities/ kits with Pharmacy focal.
- Support team to cover different visits and audits as well as MPMSR audit
8. Humanitarian and Camp Context
- Provide culturally sensitive and respectful care to Rohingya refugees and host community populations.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of women, children, and vulnerable populations.
- Work effectively in a challenging field or camp environment with limited resources.
- Remain flexible and available to support emergency or surge situations as required.
- Perform duties in accordance with humanitarian principles, organizational policies, safeguarding requirements, and the code of conduct.
