  • At least 2 years working experience on Labour issues/ NGO program implementation/ RMG sector/ leather good industry

  • Should have significant experience working on Workers’ Rights/ Industrial relations issues. Experience in using mobile apps.

  • Have knowledge on RMG industry in Bangladesh

  • Self-motivated and organized.

  • Able to work quickly and well under pressure, both independently and as a team member, juggling multiple tasks and meeting tight deadlines. 

  • Communication skills, drafting and report writing capability in Bangla/ English.

  • Computer operating knowledge especially in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and in email communication.

  • Relevant work experience is preferable.

Responsibilities & Context:

Job Context: BLAST is looking for a Court Paralegal for Dhaka. The Court Paralegal will work under Economic Justice and Labour Rights – empowering workers, especially women, to claim fair, safe, and equitable working conditions through comprehensive legal services and to raise awareness of rights; and building the capacity of workers, factory management, and key stakeholders for advocacy and policy reform.     

Job Responsibilities:

  • Handle queries from workers and provide necessary information and guidance regarding filing cases and court procedures at the Labour Legal Aid cell.

  • S/he will be responsible for receiving beneficiaries in person and completing their application forms for legal services.

  • Assist the Advocate and Advocate’s clerk at Court in conducting the cases of workers.

  • Maintain a case diary which includes the next steps, date, and the result of the case.

  • Liaise between lawyers and clients and the Sromik Ain Sohayota Cell.

  • Meet with the Sromik Ain Sohayota Cell, Labour Court, the District Legal Aid Committee, and police stations, as required, to provide speedy remedy to workers' cases.

  • Make necessary referrals for legal aid or other service seekers to service-providing organizations in the workplace, family/land matters, or livelihood issues.

  • Follow up on cases.

  • Communicate with Clients as required.

  • Keep regular communication with Panel Lawyers and staff lawyers regarding payment of bills on time.

  • Provide support in the implementation and reporting of project activities and achieve project objectives.

  • Communicate with GO/NGO offices as necessary.

  • Assist in carrying out advocacy activities at the local and national level for law and policy reform aimed at better protection of workers’ rights.

  • Prepare and preserve relevant information and documents for each applicant/case. Compile data and prepare reports for the Project to use. Prepare event reports, monthly and periodic statements, and reports of the activities and achievements.

  • Perform any other duties as and when required by the authority.
