Knowledge:

• Strong understanding of textile and craft-based product design (e.g., embroidery, stitching, macramé, jute, denim, knit, oven, etc.).

• Familiarity with Rohingya cultural aesthetics and artisanal traditions.

• Knowledge of market trends, seasonal design themes, and customer preferences (local and global).

• Understanding of sustainable, inclusive, and cost-effective product development processes.

Skills:

• Proficiency in design software (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.).

• Strong visual design and creative thinking ability.

• Skilled in prototyping, sampling, and quality assurance techniques.

• Effective communication, teamwork, and documentation skills.

Responsibilities & Context:

Lead the design and product development of the handicraft items, transforming Rohingya artisans’ skills into culturally inspired, high-quality, and marketable products. The role supports innovation and quality to help the factory become self-reliant within the project period.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and develop commercially viable designs for various products including knitwear, woven garments, denim, baby dresses, caps, and handicrafts.
  • Integrate traditional Rohingya artistry with contemporary market preferences to develop culturally relevant and appealing designs.
  • Research trends, seasonal inspirations, and market demands to drive innovation in the product line.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance and design training to Bangladeshi trainers and Rohingya artisans.
  • Assist in developing design manuals and sampling guidelines for quality assurance and production consistency.
  • Lead the prototyping of new designs in coordination with the production team.
  • Ensure feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and production-readiness of each new design.
  • Set quality benchmarks for aesthetics, finishing, and durability of designed products.
  • Continuously seek innovative materials, techniques, and processes to improve product value and competitiveness.
  • Work closely with the production team and ATS–Market Linkage teams to align designs with production capacity and sales targets.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, vendors, and market feedback sources to incorporate relevant insights into design improvements.
  • Maintain design archives, version control of samples, and product development reports.
  • Prepare and submit periodic updates on design progress, challenges, and achievements to supervisors.
  • Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme's goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.
