Completion of Advanced University Degree (Master’s or equivalent) is required. Education in International Affairs, Economics, Development Studies, Geography, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences or any relevant field is preferable.
Experience: At least 5 years of overall experience, including 3 years of Professional Experience (managerial or supervisory) in areas related to Implementing Resilience Activities and Project Management, Anticipatory Action (AA) Interventions or other relevant fields. Within these 3 years of professional experience, a minimum of 1 year of experience must be after postgraduation.
Language: Fluency in spoken and written both in English and Bangla language.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The position is based in Dhaka, Bangladesh and report to a more senior Programme Policy Officer or designate. Job holders are likely to be working under the close support and guidance of a more experienced professional staff member receiving guidance and regular feedback on work performed. They are typically involved in programme or policy activities or similar nature and analytical work of limited complexity.
To provide support to resilience policy and programme activities that effectively meet food assistance needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority):
Contribute towards the development of resilience innovation projects, plans and processes—with a focus on Anticipatory Action (AA), ensuring alignment with wider programme policies and guidance.
Provide project management support to the Resilience Innovation Unit’s programme activities, serving as the primary focal point for AA, ensuring a coordinated approach with wider programmes that complies with WFP standards and procedures.
Under AA, oversee a small team dedicated to the maintenance and regular updating of the AA database as well as support the design of an eventual handover plan for the database to Government.
Serve as the primary focal point for AA activities, overseeing coordination with other resilience innovation activities as well as WFP’s Emergency Preparedness and Response Unit.
Liaise with WFP’s Cooperating Partners (CPs) for the implementation of resilience activities and specifically on AA, ensuring the timely onboarding, training, communication and coordination, and report/payment processing for AA-related activities.
Liaise and coordinate with external stakeholders; participate in the AA TWG as a member; represent WFP at the UNCERF coordination group; and participate in other forums as requested to represent WFP’s AA work as well as overall resilience portfolio.
Research and analyze policy and operational issues to support senior colleagues in the development of policies, programmes and activities, notably related to AA in isolation as well as within shock-responsive social protection.
Contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reporting on programmes and activities that enable informed decision making and consistency of information presented to stakeholders.
Support the identification, development and management of potential partnerships to collaborative working leading to improved food assistance packages.
Support the capacity building of WFP staff, partners and national government to prepare for and respond to food assistance needs, e.g. through project management support of learning initiatives.
