• At least 2 years’ experience in primary health, health education, or patient interaction roles.

• Experience working with marginalized or vulnerable populations is preferred.

• Experience in health education related to chronic diseases or maternal health is an advantage.

Language

• Fluency in spoken Rohingya or Chittagonian language.

• Ability to read and write Bangla fluently.

Job Purpose of Health Educator (Midwife):

The Health Educator will be responsible for providing structured health education, counseling, and follow-up support to patients attending the Health Post, with a primary focus on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) prevention, control, treatment adherence, and follow-up in Project for promotion of primary and secondary prevention of non-communicable diseases and strengthening its follow-up system in Forcibility Displaced Myanmar Nationals in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. The role also includes limited support for other health areas such as maternal health and general community health. The position works under the technical supervision of the Medical Officer and in close coordination with NCD Screeners, Dispenser, Referral Facilitator, and Porters.

Key Responsibilities:

Health Education and Counseling Services

• Conduct group and individual health education sessions targeting NCD prevention, early detection, lifestyle modification, and adherence to treatment.

• Provide tailored counseling to NCD patients regarding diet, physical activity, smoking cessation, stress management, and medication adherence.

• Use culturally appropriate IEC materials to ensure patient understanding and engagement.

Medication counseling

• Explain the purpose, dosage, frequency, duration, benefits, and possible side effects of prescribed medicines according to the Medical Officer’s prescription.

• Confirm patient understanding and obtain informed consent during each visit.

Healthy lifestyle guidance

• Assess patient lifestyle risks through consultation.

• Provide tailored counseling based on patient readiness and stage of behavior change.

• Set small, achievable goals to be reviewed during follow-up visits and encourage family involvement when appropriate.

Follow-up and continuity of care

• Explain the importance of follow-up visits to patients and caregivers.

• Confirm next visit dates and document follow-up plans.

• Coordinate with Porters (community support staff) for patient follow-up, reminders, accompaniment to the Health Post, or assistance during referral visits.

Coordination and Patient Support

• Work closely with the Screener to support patients requiring further clinical assessment by the Medical Officer.

• Coordinate with the Medical Officer and Lab Technologist for patients requiring laboratory investigations and explain procedures to patients.

• Coordinate with the Referral Facilitator to support referral cases, including patient counseling, preparation, and follow-up after referral.

• Support smooth patient flow within the Health Post in coordination with facility staff.

Records, Reporting, and Documentation

• Record health education and counseling information accurately in individual patient records, including lifestyle risks, education topics, goals set, and follow-up plans.

• Organize and maintain patient records properly and share required updates with the Medical Officer on a regular basis.

• Prepare and submit weekly and monthly activity reports in a timely manner.

Quality, Ethics, and Compliance

• Maintain patient confidentiality and follow organizational Code of Conduct, PSEA, and workplace safety policies.

• Participate in regular team meetings for information sharing, coordination, and service improvement.

• Attend trainings, capacity-building activities, and organizational programs as assigned.

• Perform any other duties assigned by the authority relevant to Health Post operations.
