Job Context:
∎ REACH is a global research programme (2015-24) to improve water security for 10 million poor people in Africa and Asia. The programme is funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and led by the University of Oxford in association with partners in Bangladesh, Kenya, and Ethiopia. In Bangladesh, the programme is a collaboration between the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), University of Dhaka, and the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Diseases, Bangladesh (icddr,b), with UNICEF as the implementing partner. Further information can be found at www.reachwater.org.uk Overview of the role REACH will implement a package of social science research across Ethiopia, Kenya and Bangladesh to better understand household and intra-household dynamics of water security and inequalities. In Bangladesh, the work will focus on the southwestern coastal region and build on the extensive research conducted in Khulna district till date. The Data Manager will work closely with a team of interdisciplinary researchers based at the University of Oxford and internationally in programming a household survey questionnaire in a suitable mobile data collection platform and managing the data, including data cleaning, storage and sharing. ∎ Manager will be based in Bangladesh, s/he will also oversee data management related to a similar survey in Ethiopia and Kenya. The role involves occasional travel to Khulna during the survey training and launch periods.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Research the available mobile data collection platforms such as OpenDataKit (ODK), ONA, Survey Solutions and Survey CTO, and decide on the appropriate platform that meets the requirements of administering a household survey questionnaire through tablets or smart phones.
∎ Program the questionnaire into the chosen platform through xlsforms or form builders, with occasional support from the platform developers if needed.
∎ Support the translation of the questionnaire from English to Bangla
∎ Ensure smooth operation of the questionnaire and promptly address data entry or submission challenges faced by enumerators during the survey
∎ Manage incoming data on the cloud server during survey implementation
∎ Develop and manage security protocols, a data cleaning protocol, and version control of archived datasets
∎ Manage data sharing amongst researchers in accordance with the Data Management Protocol
Additional Requirements:
∎ Ability and initiative to self-learn survey design through online tutorials and materials
∎ Good communication skills in English (must)
∎ Experience with mobile data systems (e.g., SMS, GPRS).
∎ Skill in using MS Excel and Word.
∎ Attention to detail and precise reporting.
∎ Ability to work autonomously.
∎ Ability to present work to senior members of projects team.
∎ Experience of designing or conducting surveys through mobile data collection platforms is highly desirable
