The bank is seeking a qualified and purpose-driven professional for the following position within its Legal and Recovery Division:

Head of SAM–SME | Legal and Recovery Division

ABOUT THE JOB: The job role is responsible for managing the recovery of distressed assets within the SME portfolio. This role involves implementing effective risk mitigation strategies, collaborating with internal teams, and overseeing a dedicated team to ensure the successful rehabilitation or recovery of distressed SME accounts. This role requires a combination of financial acumen, legal knowledge, negotiation skills, and strategic thinking.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Portfolio Oversight:

  • Manage and oversee the Special Asset Management portfolio for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), ensuring effective risk mitigation and recovery strategies.
  • Lead and oversee the management of stressed accounts by developing, overseeing, and evaluating all appropriate mechanisms in terms of initiating timely action upon identifying stress, working out revival strategies, remedial measures for recovery of stressed assets and facilitating advisory.
  • Comply with BRAC Bank’s code of conduct and policy guidelines, ensuring service quality, controlling fraud and forgery, and misappropriation.

Risk Assessment

  • Conduct thorough assessments of distressed SME accounts, identifying potential risks and developing tailored solutions for rehabilitation or recovery.
  • Improve standards of risk management, ensure early identification of non-performing accounts, ensure an enhanced return on assets and exploit profit opportunities for recoveries from provisioned accounts.

Coordination and Collaboration

  • Work closely with SME Relationship Managers and Credit Teams to identify early warning signals and implement preventive measures for potentially distressed assets.
  • Lead the discussion with lawyers and consultants on cases and court judgments to ensure lower risks of error and ensure assertive direction of actions.

Management Reporting

  • Lead data analytics and analysis to assess the performance of distressed SME accounts and generate insights for continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and present regular reports to senior management on the status of the special asset portfolio.
  • Be the point of contact and represent the bank during lawsuit procedures.
  • Monitor different projects of the departments to ensure non-violation.

Compliance and Reputation

  • Ensure that all asset management practices comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with legal teams to navigate legal complexities associated with distressed SME accounts.
  • Adhere to the policies, laws and obligations of the bank, demonstrating appropriate risk assessment in terms of the bank’s reputation and image in the internal as well as the external environment to the bank.
  • Conducting fair and ethical business practices and judgements which are compliant and adhere to upholding the bank’s reputation and ensuring transparency throughout the practices and workings of the Bank and providing corrective measures to the same.

Managerial Responsibility:

  • Recruitment of staff in the Monitoring team as per the approved workforce plan.
  • Managing performance of team members; counselling and coaching team members from time to time to improve their performance.
  • Team engagement and retention.
