The Electrical Engineer will install some imported items; e.g. LED Light, switch, fan in Bangladesh follows standard safety and installation practices, including compliance with the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC), which often references International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and British Standards (BS). Key tasks involve risk assessment, material inspection for compliance with local voltage/frequency standards, proper wiring and grounding, circuit protection (like GFCI), correct installation of bulbs, fans, and switches, and ensuring the work area is safe and secured.
Technical Functions:
1. Planning and design:
• Documentation and legal compliance: Before installation, the engineer ensures all imported products have the necessary customs clearance and have been legally imported, in accordance with the Import Policy Order enforced by the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports (CCI&E).
• Design review: The electrical engineer reviews the building's electrical plans and schematics to confirm the imported items are compatible with the existing system (e.g., voltage, frequency).
• Component verification: They will verify the specifications of the imported products (e.g., power ratings, safety features) against the project's requirements and local standards.
• Material estimation: The engineer estimates the quantity of necessary local materials, such as wires, conduits, and accessories, required for the installation.
2. Pre-installation procedures
• Site assessment: The engineer conducts a thorough site inspection to assess the physical location and conditions for the installation. They check for proper ventilation, suitable mounting points, and other factors that could affect performance and safety.
• Safety protocols: They develop and communicate a site-specific safety plan, ensuring all workers use the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow safe work procedures.
• Pre-installation checks: Before the products are unpacked, the engineer verifies that the delivered items match the approved specifications and are free from any shipping damage.
3. Installation and wiring
• Layout and marking: The installation location for all items (e.g., switchboards, fans, LED Light fixtures) is marked according to the design plan.
• Wiring installation: The engineer supervises the installation of wiring and conduits, making sure they are correctly sized and properly terminated to prevent short circuits or overheating. This work must follow the single-line diagrams created during the design phase.
• Component mounting: They oversee the mounting of the imported products, ensuring fans, bulbs, and switches are securely fastened in their designated positions and correctly oriented.
• Electrical connection: For fans, they ensure the wiring is correctly connected to the speed regulator (if applicable) and the power source. For bulbs and switches, they make sure the live, neutral, and earth wires are properly connected.
4. Testing and commissioning
• Insulation resistance test: Before powering up, the engineer performs insulation resistance tests to ensure the wiring is safe and free of any leakage.
• Polarity test: The polarity of all switches is tested to ensure they are controlling the live wire of the circuit.
• Functionality and performance checks: Each installed item is individually switched on to test for proper function. This includes:
• Testing bulbs for correct illumination.
• Checking fans for rotation direction and all speed settings.
• Verifying switches respond correctly to operation.
• System integration: If multiple items are part of a larger system, the engineer ensures they all work together seamlessly as designed.
• Final inspection: The engineer conducts a final inspection to confirm that all items are securely installed, aesthetically aligned, and fully operational.
5. Post-installation and client handover
• Client training: The engineer provides the client with an overview of the new electrical system, including how to operate the new items correctly.
• As-built documentation: All changes made during installation are documented in "as-built" drawings and handed over to the client for their records.
• Maintenance schedule: A schedule for routine inspections and maintenance is prepared, outlining procedures for minor troubleshooting and upkeep.
• After-sales support: The engineer maintains an open channel for providing technical support and addressing any issues that may arise after installation.
Procurement Functions:
• Develop an appropriate Procurement strategy to maximize value for the entire SCM value chain.
• Sourcing electrical items; e.g. LED Light, fan, wire, communicating with the vendor, collecting proposals, making comparative analysis in terms of cost and quality parameters.
• Must have sound knowledge of Electrical Accessories Items HS code, Customs Tariff value, SRO parameters for Electrical Accessories, LED Lighting, Cables, and Fan products
• Selection of bank for L/C opening, including comparing the commission and charges of different banks with L/C credit limit position, application and also make necessary amendments (if necessary) of L/C in order to get an effective L/C.
• Works with freight forwards and transportation companies to set the best route and rate (reviews and approves all freight terms and agreements).
