About ASA: ASA is one of the largest and globally leading recognised microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Bangladesh. With over 3,000 branches nationwide, ASA serves millions of its members through micro-credit products, MSME loan products, savings products, client welfare fund services, and social activities. ASA operates a fully self-sustaining, donor-free model and is renowned for its in-house digital ecosystem—the ASA Microfinance Management System (AMMS)—which fully automates and is a real-time online system.

Job Context: The Assistant Director (Finance & MIS) is responsible for steering the financial accounting, reporting, and compliance functions of ASA. This role is the primary custodian of the organization’s financial integrity, tasked with preparing statutory and management accounts, leading audit engagements, ensuring strict regulatory compliance (MRA), and generating strategic financial insights. The position bridges the gap between raw financial data and actionable intelligence, ensuring that all reporting—from daily cash flows to annual budgets—is accurate, timely, and aligned with ASA’s operational scale.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Accounting, Accounts Preparation & Policy Stewardship

  • Oversee the preparation and consolidation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with Accounting Standards and ASA policies.

  • Lead the annual budgeting process of field operations, including the preparation of detailed financial forecasts, cash flow projections, and variance analysis for extensive field operations.

  • Prepare, review, and finalize reconciliations, general ledger entries, and fixed assets.

  • Ensure the accurate closing of accounts at period-ends and maintain a robust chart of accounts that reflects the complexities of microfinance operations.

  • Contribute to reviewing, evaluating, and updating ASA’s accounting manuals, policies, and operational guidelines.

  • Proceed with rectification, amendments, or additions if required to ensure alignment with evolving regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and organizational changes.

  • Ensure that the ASA Accounting Manual is consistently maintained, updated, and comprehensively reflects current accounting frameworks, MRA directives, and internal control protocols.

2. Audit Facilitation & Compliance

  • Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external auditors during annual and special audits.

  • Coordinate the preparation of audit schedules, providing all required documentation and explanations to auditors on time.

  • Review audit findings and implement corrective action plans to address recommendations and strengthen internal controls.

  • Ensure the organization’s financial operations adhere to regulatory standards, specifically the Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA) Act, rules and guidelines, and government laws.

  • Review ASA’s manual and policies, proceed to rectification/amendment/addition of policies and guidelines (if required), and ensure the ASA Accounting Manual is up to date

3. Regulatory & Statutory Reporting

  • Prepare and submit accurate financial and Regulatory reports to the MRA by following organizational policy and ensuring strict adherence to prescribed formats and deadlines.

  • Compile reports for government bodies and international partners as required, ensuring transparency and regulatory compliance.

4. Financial Analysis & Internal Reporting

  • Analyze financial data to identify cost-saving opportunities, optimize resource allocation, and monitor operational efficiency.

  • Prepare detailed portfolio quality reports, delinquency analyses, and operational efficiency metrics for senior management.

  • Develop and automate financial dashboards (using Power BI and advanced Excel) for real-time decision-making, transforming complex data into actionable strategies.

5. Field Operations Advisory & Support

  • Provide proactive strategic advisory and technical support to field operations teams to enhance financial discipline and operational accuracy at the grassroots level.

  • Guide branch-level staff on data correction and reconciliation, ensuring all transactional data entered into the core MIS aligns with physical cash and client records.

  • Advise field management on robust accounting practices, internal control mechanisms, and strict adherence to MRA compliance standards.

  • Collaborate with field teams on fund planning and liquidity management, ensuring optimal cash flow forecasting and efficient utilization of funds across branches to prevent shortages or idle surpluses.

  • Conduct regular field visits and remote reviews to identify systemic gaps in branch-level financial processes, offering hands-on corrective action plans and training to branch managers and field accountants.

6. MIS & Data Management

  • Ensure, in collaboration with IT, the seamless flow of financial and operational data.

  • Ensure, in collaboration with IT,  data integrity, security, and accuracy within the software, with a specific focus on financial data validation.

  • Identify gaps in data infrastructure and collaborate with IT to implement system upgrades that enhance financial reporting and automation.

7. Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate the performance of the Finance and MIS teams, building their capacity in financial controls and systems.

  • Act as the primary liaison between the finance, IT, and field operations departments to ensure cohesive data and financial strategies.

  • In addition, perform any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Management or authority.

Job Other Benifits:
    • The probationary period will be 1 (one) year long. After successfully completing the probationary period, the employee will be placed on the regular ASA pay scale.
    • All admissible benefits like Contributory Provident Fund, Gratuity, Yearly Increment, Festival Allowance, Nabobarsha Allowance (Boishakhi), and Employee’s Group Benefit Fund, etc., after successful completion of a one-year probation period as per ASA rules and regulations.
