Responsibilities & Context:

The Tea Garden Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of tea estate operations, including cultivation, plucking, processing, coordination, workforce management and administrative tasks. The role demands strong leadership, agricultural expertise and operational efficiency to ensure optimum tea production, quality and profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Plantation & Crop Management

  • Plan and supervise the cultivation, plucking, pruning, and manuring of tea bushes.

  • Monitor crop health, pest control measures, and irrigation schedules.

  • Implement modern agricultural practices to improve yield and quality.

2. Workforce Management

  • Supervise and manage daily activities of workers including pluckers, field supervisors, and other support staff.

  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, safety standards, and employee welfare initiatives.

  • Conduct training programs for workers on best agricultural practices.

3. Estate Operations

  • Maintain estate infrastructure including roads, drainage, factories and housing.

  • Oversee logistics, inventory of agro-inputs (fertilizers, pesticides), and maintenance of tools/equipment.

  • Coordinate with the factory unit for timely leaf delivery and quality control.

4. Budgeting and Financial Management

  • Prepare and manage the estate budget, track expenses, and ensure cost-effective operations.

  • Maintain records of production, sales, and labor costs.

 

5. Reporting & Communication

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on crop yield, weather, labor, and other key metrics.

  • Communicate with head office regarding progress, challenges, and development plans.

6. Sustainability & Compliance

  • Implement eco-friendly practices and ensure the estate complies with environmental and sustainability standards.

Handle audits, inspections, and certifications.
