Responsibilities & Context:

For a fast food worker, or "salesperson," responsibilities involve a wide range of customer service, food preparation, and sanitation duties in a high-speed environment. The primary context is a physically demanding role that requires constant multitasking and communication with both customers and kitchen staff. 

Job responsibilities

Customer service and sales

  • Greet customers warmly, take their food and drink orders accurately, and address any inquiries about the menu, ingredients, or promotions.

  • Operate cash registers and Point of Sale (POS) systems to process cash, credit, or debit card transactions and give correct change.

  • Upsell and suggest additional menu items or special deals to increase sales.

  • Resolve customer complaints and issues promptly and professionally, or escalate them to a manager when necessary.

  • Build productive, long-lasting relationships with regular customers to enhance satisfaction. 

Food preparation and handling

  • Prepare and cook food items according to company standards and recipes, such as assembling sandwiches or operating fryers and grills.

  • Package and present orders accurately and efficiently for dine-in, takeout, or drive-thru customers.

  • Ensure that all food is handled and prepared according to health and safety regulations. 

Restaurant maintenance

  • Keep work areas—including counters, dining rooms, and service stations—clean, sanitized, and organized.

  • Restock supplies, such as napkins, straws, condiments, and other items in the dining and service areas.

  • Perform opening and closing duties, such as cash reconciliation and cleaning tasks.
