Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum 10 years’ relevant experience, including experience in a similar managerial position.

  • Off-dock, ICD, port logistics or container-haulage experience strongly preferred.

  • Practical knowledge of prime movers, container chassis, reach stackers, SLTs and forklifts.

  • Strong ability in transport planning, fleet control, fuel management, safety, cost control and team leadership.

  • Familiarity with Chattogram Port and surrounding off-dock operations.

  • Working knowledge of MS Excel and operational reporting.

  • High integrity, accountability and ability to work under pressure.

  • Preferred age: 40–50 years.

  • Willingness to start early, finish late when necessary and attend emergencies.

Reports to: Operations Manager/Deputy Manager – Operations

Job Purpose

To manage SML’s 24/7 transport and operational-equipment activities, ensuring safe, timely and cost-effective movement of containers and other cargo between SML, Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) and nearby off-docks.

Operational Scope


The manager will oversee:

  • Approximately 35+ prime movers and 45+ container chassis

  • Reach stackers, SLTs, forklifts, light vehicles and generators

  • Third-party transport vendors

  • 25+ drivers, 5+ operators, 30+ helpers and 2+ supervisors

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and control import, export, laden and empty-container movements within Chattogram.

  • Ensure efficient deployment of prime movers, chassis and hired vehicles, targeting approximately 4–5 round-trips per prime mover per 24 hours where operationally possible.

  • Manage container placement and movement of reach stackers, SLTs, forklifts and other operational equipment.

  • Prepare duty rosters and manage attendance, overtime, leave, training, discipline and performance of drivers, operators, helpers and supervisors.

  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager and Workshop regarding preventive maintenance, breakdowns, defect reporting and equipment availability.

  • Manage external fuel purchasing, issuance and reconciliation; monitor consumption by trip, kilometre or operating hour and investigate abnormal usage.

  • Control third-party transport deployment, rates, performance, compliance and bill verification.

  • Enforce safe driving, equipment operation, port rules and yard-safety procedures.

  • Investigate accidents, traffic violations, unauthorized vehicle use and operational incidents. Share accountability with relevant departments for container or cargo damage.

  • Lead vehicle and equipment compliance jointly with the Documentation department, covering registration, fitness, tax tokens, insurance, permits and driver/operator licences.

  • Issue and control transport-related documents, trip sheets, fuel records and proof of delivery.

  • Coordinate with CPA officials, C&F agents, other off-docks, customers and internal departments.

  • Remain available for emergency attendance and critical operational issues outside regular working hours.
