Responsibilities & Context:
∎ Drive Bangladesh program vision and strategy development and implementation, ensuring alignment with IJM internal standards and best practices, including implementation of the global protection model.
∎ Advise the Regional President, South Asia on the status, analysis, and current needs of the Bangladesh portfolio, informing and reporting to the CEO and Global Board of Directors
∎ Cast vision for the future of the Bangladesh presence beyond the completion of the 2030 Vision.
∎ Build a leadership team of subject-matter experts and operations professionals for long-term programmatic success
∎ Engage with program activities as needed, including advocacy with government officials, casework events, survivor engagement, etc.
∎ Build collaborative relationships with justice and security sector agencies, as well as influential and strategic NGOs, INGOs, civil society, and community-based organizations.
∎ Represent IJM at all donor government and international organization-convened forums;
∎ Meet with, identify, and assess NGOs and community-based organizations with potential to become implementing partners of IJM’s programmatic strategies
∎ Prove IJM’s theory of change in both Bangladesh programs through the successful completion of baseline and endline measurement of IJM’s four protection metrics
∎ Advise global and regional teams on strategy development, ensuring it is fully encompassing of the Bangladesh portfolio Identify and elevate program risks and concerns as is appropriate
∎ Foster culture of analysis and learning amongst team, modeling thoughtful assessment of program results

∎ Ensure spending of allocated funds in accordance with IJM’s budgetary and stewardship principles and policies, including relevant donor regulations;
∎ Ensure compliance with local NGO requirements for programmatic and budgetary approvals to ensure ongoing registration; and
∎ Ensure staff-wide compliance with all relevant laws, IJM policies and best practices.
∎ Facilitate the onboarding of national staff, third country nationals, and expatriates

∎ The Need
∎ For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking to hire a prolific Country Director who will build and lead a multi-disciplinary team to launch a Justice System Strengthening (JSS) program in Bangladesh to end the pervasive commercial sexual exploitation of children in Dhaka and Mymensingh. Leveraging IJM’s global protection model and best practices from 25 years of similar programming, the Country Director will empower the Bangladesh team to sustainably increase access to justice and secure appropriate services for survivors of sexual exploitation. The Country Director will inspire the team to work in deep partnership with local civil society and government actors, modeling IJM’s values of bridge-building. Within two years of program launch, the Country Director will guide the team to launch a concurrent program to address forced labor trafficking, scaled across an additional three locations (totaling five locations of implementation). Together, the two programs represent IJM’s second-largest single-country portfolio within its global presence.

∎ The role is based in Dhaka, but will have travels as required to each of IJM’s future program locations (Khulna, Barisal and Mymensingh).
