Job Context:
∎ The Senior WPE Officer is responsible to provide overall support to the WPE team in WGSS. The role and responsibility are to ensure that basic, essential support for vulnerable women and girls (including survivors of gender-based violence- GBV) is provided according to survivor-centered principles during the emergency interventions. She will ensure that all activities conducted as part of WGSS and WPE activities follow the guiding principles and the survivor-centered approach to adhere to standard methodologies. The Senior WPE Officer will support the mainstreaming of these approaches throughout the wider Emergency Protection Response through close coordination with the IRC WPE TEAM in particular to ensure safe and quality referrals for GBV survivors to health services, also to the other govt and non govt collaborators. She will receive on the job mentoring and training to fulfill her role.

Job Responsibilities:
∎ Adhere to and dedicatedly promote the women-, girl- and survivor-centered support approach, and the GBV guiding principles
∎ Consult and work with the women and adolescent girls in the Center to identify their needs, interests and priorities, and what’s important to them, and where possible, adapt activities according to these to ensure activities offered are culturally appropriate and meet the needs of women and girls
∎ Assist in the planning and implementation of training and other activities for women and girls participating in Center services and activities
∎ Assist in the planning and implementation of activities aimed at community leaders and parents (or guardians/gatekeepers) of the adolescent girls accessing the Centers and safe spaces
∎ Conduct, prepare, and organize activities with women and girls with an understanding of the age range of adolescent girls and varying risks adolescent girls face.
∎ Provide Psychosocial First Aid and non-judgmental support and services to women and girls
∎ Assist with dignity kit distributions, appropriate messaging, and feedback from women and girls on dignity kits and other essential items provided
∎ Know, understand and use the formal GBV referral pathway
∎ Work in close, daily collaboration with the SRH team in the Centers to ensure women and girls have safe, discrete and confidential access to/from the GBV and SRH services via the internal referral procedures
∎ Know, understand and be able to apply the best interest and determination for women and girls
∎ Liaising with government officials and other collaborators to ensure support for the program and coordination
∎ Outreach and Community Mobilization:
∎ Build positive, productive, trusting connections with women and adolescent girls, girls’ parents/caregivers and their communities, ensuring to maintain professional boundaries and humanitarian ethics at all times
∎ In collaboration with the whole WGSS team, monitor community outreach and engagement activities including SASA together activities to build community support and consensus for the Centers in a safe and appropriate manner, and awareness activities on GBV and its health consequences, promote available services to women and girls, and listen to them on barriers to accessing services with activities.
∎ Inform adolescent girls and their guardians about available services and material support in accordance with their needs.
∎ Other Duties and Responsibilities:
∎ Maintain open and professional relations with all IRC team members, promoting a strong & respectful team spirit, ensuring effective communication, and opportunities for debriefing.
∎ Consistently and dedicatedly monitor/assess the safety and security of the team, promptly reporting concerns or incidents to IRC management and liaising with other external parties as required to maintain/enhance the security environment.
∎ Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop WGSS program

Additional Requirements:
∎ At least 2-3 years of experience in GBV programs for women and girls is essential; and experience in coordination is highly preferred.
∎ Ability to demonstrate a clear and genuine willingness to work and learn quickly and be committed to developing professionally in the field of GBV, in particular – supporting women and girls.
∎ Clear understanding of and interest in the well-being of women and girls
∎ Understanding of the impact and dynamics of violence against women and girls, and a strong interest in working on women and girls’ protection and empowerment
∎ Personal qualities: Works well in and promotes teamwork, comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible and able to handle pressure well.
∎ Strong communication and facilitation skills
∎ Ability to keep records and write simple and basic reports of activities is essential.
∎ Excellent listening and observation skills, including ability to create trust, support, respect and interact with survivors of all ages, background and diversity
∎ Language spoken by population in need - essential; Good working knowledge of English – preferable, not essential
∎ Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect in WGSS at all times is essential
∎ People who are familiar in local dialects and local language will get preference.
∎ Strong written and verbal communication skills in English would be considered an asset.
