Job Summary
The Senior Merchandiser is responsible for managing the complete merchandising cycle for woven denim garments, from product development and order confirmation to bulk production and shipment. The role requires close coordination with buyers, sourcing teams, production, washing, quality assurance, and logistics to ensure on-time delivery, cost optimization, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Buyer & Customer Management
Maintain strong relationships with international buyers and serve as the primary point of contact.
Handle inquiries, quotations, negotiations, and order confirmations.
Conduct regular communication regarding product development, approvals, production status, and shipment updates.
Ensure buyer requirements and compliance standards are fully understood and implemented.
Product Development
Coordinate sample development, including proto, fit, size set, pre-production (PP), and salesman samples.
Review technical packs, garment specifications, construction details, and wash requirements.
Work closely with design, pattern, and sample teams to ensure accurate product development.
Obtain buyer approvals for fabrics, trims, washes, and garments.
Costing & Pricing
Prepare detailed garment costing based on fabric consumption, trims, washing, CM, embroidery, printing, packing, and logistics.
Negotiate prices with suppliers and buyers to achieve target margins.
Monitor material costs and recommend cost-saving alternatives without compromising quality.
Material Sourcing
Source woven denim fabrics, pocketing, interlining, labels, buttons, rivets, zippers, threads, and packaging materials.
Coordinate with local and overseas suppliers for timely procurement.
Monitor raw material availability to avoid production delays.
Production Coordination
Coordinate with planning, production, industrial engineering, washing, and quality teams.
Monitor Time and Action (T&A) calendars to ensure all milestones are achieved.
Follow up on fabric in-house status, cutting, sewing, washing, finishing, and packing.
Identify production risks and implement corrective actions.
Denim Washing & Finishing
Coordinate garment washing developments, including enzyme, stone, bleach, ozone, laser, resin, tinting, whiskering, and other fashion washes.
Monitor wash approvals and ensure consistency between approved samples and bulk production.
Work with wash plants to optimize quality, cost, and lead time.
Quality Assurance
Coordinate with QA/QC teams to ensure products meet buyer specifications and quality standards.
Review inspection reports and corrective action plans.
Ensure inline, final, and pre-shipment inspections are completed successfully.
Shipment & Documentation
Coordinate shipment schedules with commercial and logistics departments.
Verify packing lists, shipping marks, export documentation, and buyer requirements.
Ensure on-time shipment according to delivery commitments.
Reporting & Analysis
Maintain order status reports and merchandising dashboards.
Prepare weekly production and shipment updates.
Analyze order performance, delivery efficiency, and profitability.
Maintain accurate merchandising records and documentation.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Textile Engineering, Apparel Manufacturing, Fashion Technology, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
6–10 years of merchandising experience in woven denim garments.
Proven experience handling international apparel buyers and large-volume orders.
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of woven denim fabrics, garment construction, and manufacturing processes.
In-depth understanding of denim washing techniques and finishing processes.
Expertise in garment costing and consumption calculations.
Knowledge of quality standards, compliance requirements, and production planning.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and ERP systems.
Strong understanding of the end-to-end apparel supply chain.
