Job Title:
Senior Pattern Designer (Independent Role – High-End Garments)
Role Overview:
A highly skilled and autonomous Pattern Designer responsible for translating complex design concepts into precise, production-ready patterns with minimal supervision. The role requires ownership of the full pattern development lifecycle—from initial concept interpretation to final bulk approval—ensuring superior fit, construction integrity, and alignment with premium international buyer standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Independent Pattern Development
Interpret design sketches and technical packs independently
Develop first patterns without reliance on pre-existing blocks where required
Handle complex garment structures (tailored, structured, high-fashion pieces)
Ensure patterns reflect both aesthetic intent and production feasibility
2. Advanced Fit & Technical Expertise
Lead fit sessions with strong technical judgment
Diagnose and resolve fit issues across multiple body types and size ranges
Execute precise pattern corrections with minimal trial iterations
Ensure consistency between proto, fit, and pre-production samples
3. End-to-End Ownership
Take full responsibility from pattern creation → sampling → fit approval → bulk readiness
Work directly with merchandising, design, and production without constant supervision
Act as the final technical authority on pattern-related decisions
4. High-Level CAD & Digital Capability
Expert-level proficiency in Gerber AccuMark, Lectra, or Optitex
Develop, modify, and digitize patterns with high accuracy
Utilize 3D simulation (if applicable) for virtual fitting and development efficiency
5. Precision Grading & Size Engineering
Develop grading rules tailored to specific buyer size charts
Ensure proportional consistency and fit integrity across all sizes
Handle complex grading for premium and technical garments
6. Construction Optimization
Recommend construction improvements for better fit, durability, and cost efficiency
Balance design intent with manufacturability and production scalability
Collaborate with production teams to streamline sewing processes
7. Fabric & Material Understanding
Adjust patterns based on fabric behavior (stretch, drape, shrinkage)
Anticipate issues related to different materials and washes
Ensure compatibility between pattern and fabric performance
8. Quality & Bulk Production Readiness
Approve final patterns for bulk production with full confidence
Troubleshoot bulk issues independently and provide immediate solutions
Maintain alignment between approved samples and production output
9. Documentation & Technical Integrity
Maintain highly organized pattern libraries and version control
Ensure all technical changes are recorded and traceable
Prepare clear pattern specifications for internal teams
Candidate Profile:
Experience:
8–15+ years of advanced pattern making experience
Proven ability to work independently in high-pressure export environments
Strong exposure to premium international buyers (Europe/USA)
Education:
Diploma or Degree in Pattern Making, Fashion Design, or Textile Engineering
Core Competencies:
Independent decision-making and ownership
Advanced pattern engineering and garment construction
Deep understanding of fit across global markets
Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
High attention to detail with precision mindset
Key Success Indicators:
First-fit approval rate (minimal corrections required)
Reduced sample iteration cycles
Zero/low pattern-related bulk issues
High consistency between sample and production
Efficient handling of complex styles independently
Positioning (What Makes This Role High-End):
Works with minimal supervision
Handles complex, fashion-forward, or premium garments
Acts as a technical authority, not just an executor
Contributes to product excellence and brand-level quality
