Experience:
BSc In Textile Engineering
4–8 years of experience in fabric QA / fabric technology / product development.
Prior experience working with UK or EU buyers (especially Sainsbury’s, M&S, Tesco, Next, Primark) will be a strong advantage.
• Strong exposure to knit, woven, and denim fabrics (depending on business need).
• Strong knowledge of fabric construction, dyeing, printing, and finishing processes.
• Hands-on experience with fabric testing standards (ISO, AATCC, ASTM, BS).
• Clear understanding of color fastness, physical & chemical testing parameters.
• Familiar with RSL, MRSL, and chemical compliance.
Soft Skills & Competencies
• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple suppliers/projects.
• Good presentation and reporting skills.

The Senior Executive / Assistant Manager – Supplier Fabric Technologist will be responsible for providing end-to-end fabric technical support for Sainsbury’s supply base. The role involves close coordination with buyers, sourcing teams, garment technologists, testing laboratories, and fabric mills to ensure that all fabrics meet Sainsbury’s quality standards, performance requirements, sustainability guidelines, and compliance protocols.
The position plays a critical role in fabric development, bulk approval, quality risk management, and problem-solving to ensure right-first-time production and on-time delivery
Job Responsibilities:
Fabric Development & Approval
• Review and evaluate fabric specifications, swatches, lab dips, strike-offs, and bulk submissions as per Sainsbury’s standards.
• Support fabric development for new qualities, finishes, and constructions based on buyer requirements.
• Ensure fabric performance meets required standards (GSM, shrinkage, color fastness, pilling, spirality, dimensional stability, etc.).
Testing & Compliance
• Coordinate with nominated third-party labs (e.g., SGS, Intertek) for fabric testing.
• Ensure all test reports comply with Sainsbury’s testing protocol and legal requirements (REACH, RSL, CPSIA, UK/EU regulations).
• Monitor test failures and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
Supplier & Mill Management
• Act as the technical interface between Sainsbury’s, buying office, suppliers, and fabric mills.
• Support suppliers in fabric troubleshooting, process improvement, and quality enhancement.
• Conduct technical meetings with mills for risk assessment and bulk readiness.
Bulk Production Support
• Monitor fabric bulk production and ensure consistency with approved standards.
• Identify potential quality risks and take proactive actions to avoid bulk issues.
• Support garment technologists during bulk issues related to fabric performance.
Quality Risk Management
• Analyze recurring fabric issues (shade variation, rubbing, pilling, shrinkage, bow/skew, hand feel).
• Develop preventive solutions and standard operating procedures for suppliers.
• Maintain technical records and fabric performance history.
Sustainability & Innovation
• Support sustainable fabric sourcing initiatives (organic, recycled, BCI, Lenzing, GRS, RCS, FSC, etc.).
• Promote eco-friendly processes, low-impact dyes, and responsible chemical management.
• Keep updated on new fabric technologies and market trends.
Reporting & Communication
• Prepare technical reports, fabric risk assessments, and test status trackers.
• Communicate clearly with internal teams and suppliers regarding technical decisions.
• Escalate critical quality risks in a timely and professional manner.
