Job Responsibilities:
∎ Proofread English-language content produced by RCMC staff and volunteers for readability, style and grammar.
∎ Under supervision of the RCMC editor, develop regular editorial content for publication on the RCMC website, and IOM/RCMC social media channels.
∎ Provide regular documentation of RCMC activities, artwork and events.
∎ Identify, research and develop human interest stories and other materials about Rohingya identity, heritage, memory and culture in a variety of formats, including posters, booklets, postcard sets, articles, exhibition guides, etc.
∎ Provide support to the audio-visual team, etc. for scriptwriting, subtitles, wall text copy, etc.
∎ Provide mentorship, training and feedback on research, storytelling and copywriting to Rohingya volunteers.
∎ Engage actively in workshops with Rohingya individuals and key community members to define how their identity and cultural stories should be portrayed.
∎ Assist in the development and delivery of the RCMC master classes, including helping build confidence and capacity of artisans to deliver the classes, and other support.
∎ Support the editor and RCMC core team with any other tasks that might be identified or relevant to the nature of the project.
Additional Requirements:
∎ A successful candidate is a native English speaker, or fully bilingual in Bengali and English. He or she must be able to write, edit and proofread publication-ready English language that is stylistically compelling, and meets a high standard of technical proficiency (i.e. grammar, syntax, structure, etc.)
∎ The candidate should have a background in journalism, communications, creative writing or related field, with 5-7 years of professional experience.
∎ The candidate must have the ability to meet deadlines, producing quality work efficiently and under pressure.
∎ The candidate must have strong reporting and research skills, and take care to verify claims made about Rohingya culture and identity before publication.
∎ Key qualities: enthusiasm, creativity, attention to detail, can-do attitude, and ability to meet challenges with innovation thinking.
∎ The candidate must be empathetic and sensitive in engaging with the refugee community.
∎ Previous experience in humanitarian and emergency response environments is an asset.
∎ Practical knowledge of photography and video is an asset.
∎ Good understanding of new technologies and digital platforms.
∎ Working knowledge of MS Office and creative software such Adobe Creative Cloud. Knowledge of digital story-telling applications such of Spark or Shorthand is an asset.
∎ Must be a team player with good capacity for collaboration, willingness to learn and grown, and ability to set aside personal ego in order to work on a shared vision.
