• Minimum 3 to 4 years of relevant hands on professional experience in spatial data management, GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS), remote sensing image processing, and property database construction, in water resource or environmental sectors NGO.

• Uttaran invites applications for the vacant position titled- Research Officer - GIS, Remote Sensing and Data Analysis for the Sustainable River Basin Management Project

Reports to: Head of Programme.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute independent multitemporal spatial analyses of river networks, wetlands, land use patterns, and inundation extents using optical and radar imagery (e.g., Landsat, Sentinel-1, and Sentinel-2).

• Produce comprehensive in house GIS based atlas, maps, and spatial databases (e.g., Remote Sensing Change Atlas, Catchment Status Profiles, Beel Suitability Maps).

• Build and manage the project’s primary catchment wise GIS intervention database covering proposed TRM beels, embankments, link canals, and drainage structures.

• Process secondary, socioeconomic, and field verified spatial data to feed directly into the project’s Participatory Decision Support System (PDSS).

• Monitor monthly and seasonal waterlogging extents, land elevation changes, and shoreline modifications through satellite remote sensing validation.

• Coordinate with field teams to ensure all spatial datasets, GPS tracks, and infrastructure photographs are accurately referenced, formatted, and documented.

• Deliver internal GIS capacity building and spatial data support to project staff, local Water Management Organizations (WMOs), and Multi Stakeholder Forums (MSF).

Other Responsibilities

• Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Programme or senior management in support of organizational objectives.
