Education:

University degree in Anthropology, medical anthropology, social-anthropology or sociology.

Experience:

  • Previous work experience in relation with medical anthropology/socio-anthropology or qualitative research is essential.

  • Experience in developing countries and experience with MSF or any other organization in public health is highly recommended.

Language:

  • Mission language (Bangla and English) essential, local language (Chittagongian) desirable.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, including research design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation.

  • Strong knowledge of Participatory Action Research (PAR), co-design, co-production, and community engagement methodologies.

  • Knowledge of research protocol development, literature review, formative research, and research ethics/ERB requirements.

  • Knowledge of socio-cultural determinants of health, health beliefs, perceptions, and health-seeking behaviours, particularly within community settings.

  • Knowledge of community-led dengue prevention approaches, social and behavioural factors influencing dengue prevention, and participatory methods such as mapping and PhotoVoice.

  • Strong knowledge of research documentation, data management, reporting, and dissemination, including development of learning reports, programme/policy briefs, and research publications.

Responsibilities & Context:

Accountabilities:

  • Design, plan and organize researches (qualitative and quantitative) to understand the existing health beliefs, explanatory models and the health seeking behavior related to project's needs.

  • Provide reports and tools to the project team to improve medical activities, in term of approaches and relation with the local population.

  • Provide information and recommendation to the project team in order to support their understanding of local culture and perception to adapt efficiently the medical activities.

  • Support Health Promotion activities (pre-testing of materials, focus groups, social data collection...).

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities:

  • Lead the design of a research project exploring community-led dengue prevention activities in Chattogram’s urban communities.

  • Conduct literature review of existing knowledge regarding community-led dengue prevention activities in Bangladesh and beyond to identify knowledge gaps and inform research design.

  • Conduct assessment and formative research activities required to inform research design and protocol development

  • Identify and meet with key partners and stakeholders to inform research design and scope potential areas of collaboration.

  • In close collaboration with the MSF project team in Chattogram and MSF Advisors, design research project, including refining research questions, research design and methodologies.

  • Lead on drafting research concept notes and research protocol in line with MSF Research Systems and ERB requirements. Integrate feedback as required.

  • Draft ERB protocol variation requests as necessary.

  • Design and implement a community engagement strategy for community-led prevention activities, in close collaboration with HPCE team.

  • Identify appropriate sites for implementation of PAR and/or other research activities.

  • Conduct social networking mapping activities (or similar) to identify key stakeholders in the community, with a focus on inclusion of marginalised groups and individuals within the community.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders based on trust and mutual listening.

  • Design a community engagement strategy rooted in principles of co-design and co-production, involving community stakeholders at every stage of the process.

  • Train team members in co-design and co-production methodologies. Provide on-the-job coaching and continuous support throughout the life of the project. ü Develop monitoring tools and indicators to ensure appropriate implementation of the community engagement strategy, in line with agreed principles ü Participate regularly in community engagement activities, including but not limited to key stages of the co-production process. ü Establish and maintain clear processes and mechanisms for community feedback, ensuring feedback is listened to and acted upon by MSF teams and other stakeholders.

  • Lead implementation of Participatory Action Research (or similar methodology) on community-led dengue prevention in Chattogram urban communities.

  • Coordinate implementation of all stages of Participatory Action Research (PAR), or other similar participatory approach, on community-led dengue prevention initiatives in selected communities, following the approved research protocol.

  • Develop and maintain project management and tracking tools.

  • Provide technical oversight and/or direct line management for MSF staff involved in the research project (depending on team composition)

  • Organise, facilitate and document co-design and planning workshops with community stakeholders.

  • Liaise with MSF operational teams to mobilise MSF resources and support to implement co-designed activities (e.g. supplies, trainings, rehabilitation support, etc.)

  • Lead co-development and implementation of data collection tools for each stage of the project, including creative and participatory methods (e.g. PhotoVoice, mapping, etc.)

  • Organise, facilitate and document collaborative data analysis processes with community members.

  • Facilitate the co-creation of recommendations for adaptation of programme activities and broader learnings.

  • Document and disseminate project learnings.

  • Be responsible for documentation of all project learnings.

  • Safely store and organise all research data.

  • Iteratively analyse and summarise data collected in each phase of the project to inform real-time adaptations and future steps.

  • Based on collaborative analyses and interpretations of data, draft final project learning report.

  • Draft other learning products, such as programme briefs, operational recommendations, policy briefs, etc. as agreed in the dissemination plan and in response to emerging opportunities.

  • Lead writing of products for external publication, including academic journal articles, promoting community involvement and authorship whenever possible.

  • Participate in external and internal dissemination events, including by presenting findings at conferences, policy events and others.

  • Work in close collaboration with the Social Sciences team to ensure robust medical-operational analysis, methodological rigour, and the effective translation of social science insights into practical operational recommendations, while contributing to broader institutional learning.

    There is no provisions for relocation. 2 Festival Bonuses after completion of one year of uninterrupted continuous service.
